so this will be my mini build thread for my newest set up. ill be switching from a 2.3 tvs over to a gen4 2.9 crusher whipple. along with the blower swap ill be adding some new smaller things and trying to tie all the accents together (black, polished and red).
the tvs has been great and made great power. im just looking for something new and the gen4 seems intriguing to me. im not sure what the 2.3 made on E but looking at what others with similar set ups make im guessing it was around 700. the few gen 4 2.9 set ups i see are knocking on the door of 800. we shall see
ill be starting tear down this week and will hopefully have it all buttoned up within a couple of weeks. so if your looking for a good low mile (sub 1k) gen 2 2.3 tvs with gt500 set up it will be for sale as soon as it comes off. once its all back together kevin (04 sleeper) will be doing his thing again.
ill keep this updated as things progress. cant wait to see how it goes

Looking forward to seeing this. Very similar to a build I'm looking at and what I intend to do. Will you be dynoing with just a blower swap, that would be a great data point. Sounds like the smaller things may be esthetics.

Thanks for posting and good luck.

Unfortunately I will not be doing a dyno comparison. But once the 2.9 is dialed in I am going to strap it down to see what it makes.
There will be some aesthetic changes but I will also go into a few of the mods that I have done already but haven't documented (j2fab flow mod, gt500 h/e, relocation of both overflow tanks, battery relocation ect...)

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. I'm interested in your thoughts between the two blowers.

However, I have no plans of changing out my little 2.3 tvs. It's perfect for what I use the car for.

Good luck, please post pictures.

Yes. Boost will be roughly the same as the previous blower, 22 maybe 23lbs. 22 seemed to be ok on the tvs and I think I have the right pulley combo to make the same on the new whipple.

I'm hoping to finally start my swap next weekend. I have a couple things this upcoming weekend that I'm taking the Cobra to. I'm looking forward to finally swapping for the bigger blower.

So I started tear down today and actually got everything off except for the valve covers. The worst/most time consuming thing is the strut tower brace. If it wasn't for that I could have been done in about 2 hours. Here is where I left off for today

Very nice, what injectors are you going to run?

I think it will be a mistake not running higher boost unless you are still on pump gas which will still be a mistake. They like high boost on E-85 so ARP 2k head studs would be a good thing now.

I'll look into studs, not sure I want to pull the heads right now to install though

I've see that before. I may do that, especially since I'm pulling the valve covers.
I guess worst case scenario is it doesnt work and I'll have to pull them to do it right

Don’t worry doing it one at a time will work just fine and you’ll be happy you did it once you decide to throw a smaller pulley on and turn up the boost. Hopefully you already have a metco lower

Guessing you already had the 1050s but if it’ll be a new purchase I’d go bigger

Yes, I already have them. When I spoke with kevin he said they would be enough. If I were going new I probably would have went bigger. I guess we will find out when we start tuning.

This should be interesting. Aside from the Crusher inlet our set ups will be pretty similar.

What did you do to take the crossover tube out i can see the hose runs to the front of the car but can't tell what you did

for the cooling system i have the following: on3 crossover delete, on3 thermostat housing in the upper lines, on 3 head cooling mod (connects to the tstat housing), gt lower hose, relocated the over flow to the driver fender. so far it has been working good. i do with the crossover delete lines were a little bigger but thats what im stuck with. no issues warming up and stays in the 180ish range.
hopefully that answers your question
