I have questions.....anyone a real deal Marine?
Watch the show?

The questions are stupid, but want to know accuracy of character being portrayed.

General discussion and heckling encouraged and welcomed

I was in the Marine Corps during the 90's where we learned boxing, fighting with a bayonet, both by hand and attached to a rifle, and LINE training (Linear Infighting Neural Override Engagement). All the fighting techniques we learned were similar in style and complementary so you wouldn't have to think or remember something different whether you were armed or fighting bare handed. The training was also designed to be effective and deadly when dealing with combat fatigue.

Does that mean that your average Marine could take on your average boxer, wrestler, or MMA fighter, probably not. Put a knife in their hands and/or they are tired and in a fight to the death, the Marine's chances of winning increase dramatically.

Hollywood sensationalism aside and how this relates to the Punisher... his training and combat experience likely made him significantly better at being able to calmly think his way through a fight. Combine that with not being afraid of seriously injuring or killing someone else, and he has a huge advantage. Notice the primary antagonists were almost always his equal because of similar training and experience.

The show on Netflix is bad ass. I like the movie too and I’m not much into superhero’s but like the Punisher.

I really do like the show a lot. I didn’t think someone else would be any good at the punisher. But this guy he fits the bill 100%.

I really enjoyed the movie

It was a good movie. I hope this gets to that point.

Here’s another stupid question for you.
A few times in massive mayhem and murderin bad Guy scenes he is barking.

Is that a thing? Part of training like a war cry. It had me thinking “the dogs of war” thing wasn’t just and interesting term. But an actual part of marine of the package. Intimidation/motivation during engagements.

Who were you with in the Corps? What was your MOS? I was in mid 80's to early 90's.

Hollywood likes to play things up... the Marine yell "hoo-rah" (not to be confused with the Army's "hoo-ah" or the Navy's "hoo-ya") is more of a recruiting or marketing thing... you're likely to hear Marines grunt "err-ah" but it's more of a respectful "what's up" or "that was bada$$" than saying "hoo-rah" or barking.

I was never in combat so I can't speak from experience but during training guys would certainly give loud guttural yells while attacking or advancing which you did see Punisher doing on the show.

Something else to consider; there is a certain level of confidence building / brainwashing that takes place which is why certain members of the military are so cocky. You have to believe that you are either invincible, or the only one capable of defeating the enemy... how else would you convince someone to advance directly in to enemy fire where it's more likely than not that they are going to die.

Also consider the psychological effect it has on the enemy to know that it doesn't matter how many Marines you've killed... they keep advancing and screaming bloody murder along the way. The Marine nickname Devil Dog came from Germans during World War II. The Germans had a strong defensive position with better numbers and eventually retreated after experiencing this exact thing.

Human nature to fight or flight....
Add yrs of gym training, then martial arts, plus unrealistic thoughts of what a true punch can do...
Real story.....
A 27 yr male returned home after 5 yrs in minimum prison, built, stamina , and on steroids......
3 houses down lived a family 3 kids.....we often wondered as a group why we never saw the father....
I'm 14 yrs old playing catch football on the street w/ friends...This new toughest guy drove down the street stopping n got out with a male......we are no tough guys....after he punched George n then Freddy( sucker punch) we backed way off,,,,,THEN a voice from 6 houses away says our loud.." hey f..k nuts........you want some of the same". Mr Sequin came off his front porch walking towards us all.... walked past the car and stopped...we as neighbors thought he had been drinking..... (yes)" he had a white tshirt on.....
first he took on the other man we didn't know.....they grabbed each other hands n
finger locked....Mr Sequin broke most fingers n left wrist of tough guy without figging moving.....so fast n brutal. ouch......
mister tough guy goes at neighbour with hard punches n couple of kicks..
Mr Sequin ( in our collective groan) walked thru n attacked so ferious n connecting n showing tough guy wasn't trained / experienced .......( a bully)
When over in say 3 mins, on the ground out cold, tough guy....
Mr Sequin was covered in blood...he took off his tshirt, rinsed his face off with my brother's ginger ale drink..... not a cut on him......he just walked but home...
Freddy ( who was suckered) ran after him, but he closed his door....
Police came, took both toughs n towed the vehicle.........
Never went to Mr Sequins house.........
We found out from our Dads that Mr Sequin fought in the war. ( WWII)
I was 14 yrs..... left an impression

Never mess with a man of the greatest generation. They are not the greatest for nothing. As children they dealt with combat and the Great Depression. They fear nothing.
