I used to think that, until we finally bit the bullet and bought one at work for our 80 acres. Went with the Turf Tiger II because of the terrain, but it handles our brush better than the previous Laser Z we had...don’t even get me started about the 2 Dixie Choppers we sold or the Hustler. Dry cut is about on par with the Laser Z, but the Velocity deck simply outshines everything else in thick wet stuff. I’d like to have a Tiger Cat for our personal land but not willing to spend the money yet when the Kubota still manages to get the job done, albeit I’m sure in quite a bit more time.

See right now I’m trying to decide if I should go with the patriot or if it really is worth the extra to splurge and get the tiger cat. I know the velocity deck is supposed to be great but it’s about a 2k price difference from what I’m seeing and I’m just going to maintain 2 acres at my personal home.

This thing is a beast. I messed with the control settings to tweak it. Just might need to lower and pull the controls back a little so my arms rest on the arm rests. Dealer did a damn good job setting it up. Level as hell.

You may be the exception to the rule. lol
Hustler and the Laser Z should be on par for a little less money. I don't normally compare thick, wet though.
Strange thing is Dixie Choppers are known for rough cut and are hard to get a pretty finish cut with but they should shine on rough, thick and wet.
The velocity deck is very good but I've found the triton deck to be just as good for a little less.
Not much less though. lol

I can never get comfortable with my arms on the rest. Not sure why.

I actually went back to the dealer setting, and I agree. I was just out messing around. Better control. Need to just tweak one control. Pulls just a touch to the left both sticks full forward.

I tried the Patriot out and it is a fine mower, and I’m sure it would be fine for your size lawn. If you’re thinking Tiger Cat II see if you can find a low hours model as it can save you a bundle. The better pumps, monitoring system and deck are nice additions but are overkill for non-commercial imho.

I agree. Pretty sure they run the 3400, mine has the 2800 which is what a bunch of the commercial units use. Had filters and separate tanks.

Don’t get me wrong, the Laser has the best dry cut of them all but we are consistently cutting high, thick stuff wet or dry and the velocity just doesn’t clump like the others. The Dixie’s worked great, when they worked, which wasn’t often. We had so many pump/pulley issues with them we said screw it and sold them. Never even made it out of the commercial warranty, got sick of carrying them to the dealer.

There is a reason most everyone down south either uses Ex or Scag, though I occasionally see a Gravelly or Hustler. Dealer network and ease of maintenance is a big plus.

I wanted to say the Patriot has the 3100s, it had good power on the 52” I tried out. I know it has the smaller PTO clutch, roughly 1/3 the holding capacity of the big commercial big brothers iirc.

The newer seats are comfortable as hell, I know that. I’d definitely splooge there.

I looked at the Scag stuff. I thought most ran the 3400 units, but I did look at a ton of mowers.

We’re both right, the 52” I tried had the 3100s but the 61” comes with 3400s. Didn’t realize it until I looked it up.

One of my main players was the engine. Never had a Kawasaki, had Kohler and Briggs, but wanted one this time. Mind you, I cut residential and would have went for the 54” or 60”, but it was the Kohler. Did not want that this time.

The 52inch deck equipped version I’d be looking at has 3100 the 61inch is a 3400 but I’d like a little smaller deck to more comfortably fit in some of the tighter areas between my fencing and my wood line

Yea I really need to shell out the time to go sit on a few and operate them a bit at a dealer. My yard can be bumpy in spots so a comfy seat will be nice. I’ll also be curious to see what pricing truest is on each one and that will pretty much mail away my choice. Just have the clean up the 2520 this weekend and list it for sale as well.

My dealer priced the Patriot 52” at $6400 & the TC2 52” at 87-8800 respectively iirc. I didn’t shop around very much but I do know cash gave him quite a bit more wiggle room to haggle. They do offer some solid financing deals though with 0% from what I saw. I’m in the same boat, but I’m going to wait until the end of the year since the cutting season will be over and they’ll be trying to clean out current stock to make room for new. May get lucky and find a very low hour trade-in for a steal.

Yea I’ll have to keep an eye out for low hour trades as well. If I do spring for a TC2 it’ll depend on what I get for the 2520. I’m going to list it for 14k and it’s fairly low hours at only 433 and it’s garage kept so hopefully I can walk away with like 13k. Much less then that I may as well just keep it.
