Do you think you'll have enough nerve to keep your foot in it to take advantage of the aero grip in the turns? The slicks are one thing, but that MkII is probably glued to the tarmac at speed.

Yes, not a problem, I've been driving aero cars for years now.

One of the big "secrets" of driving track cars, particularly aero cars, is that it's not really a question of nerve because you're not driving the car based on how fast you think you can go. Rather, you're driving based on the feedback you're getting from the tires and the chassis. I call it driving by feel, rather than driving by vision.

You can feel the front tires sliding across the tarmac through the steering wheel; you can feel the rear tires through the seat; you can feel the overall balance of the car (how much the front is sliding vs how much the rear is sliding) by the difference between where the car is pointing and the steering you've input. In an aero car it just feels like you have more grip in the high-speed corners, almost like you're on fresh tires or high-grip surface, and you drive to the grip available.

There's more to it, of course, but that's the basics. Aero cars make high speed turns feel like they have more grip, and you use it.

I know exactly what you mean with regards to "feeling" what the car is doing and listening to what it's telling you. Thanks to irresponsible experiences back in my younger days, I'm acutely aware of what a car is doing when I'm driving now. LOL Spirited driving with a passenger:

Me: Did you feel that?
Passenger: Feel what?
Me: Nevermind.

Treynor - Thought you might be interested in a car that came up for sale that was listed on Rennlist.

Ultra rare 2005 Yellow Carrera GT. Listed at $949,000.

Thanks - I really like the CGT in red or silver, and somehow in yellow it didn't grab me.

Back to the reasons to hate: here's a 1:48 lap of Buttonwillow in my Mustang from yesterday.

Hey Treynor, funny I went to HS in Los Altos (graduated from los altos high) a few years ago and never saw any of your cars in town. Now I'm at San Jose State finishing up my degree, would be cool to see some of these cars driving down main street.

Funny, we're regulars down town. Sorry to have missed you!

Thanks for the "ride". That was a nice video. That Mustang sings so well. ;)

THAT TRANNY! :D

U.M.
This is about the only forum where you can say that and we all know what you really mean.

Ben, I love your lap videos at Buttonwillow. A group of my friends went in on a Lemons car. We are aiming to run the event at Buttonwillow next September, but are trying to get everyone cycled through a couple days there first.

Long time, no update! Here's a video I suspect y'all will enjoy: onboard the McLaren Senna vs onboard the Ford GT MK II for a lap of Thermal. It's interesting how differently the two cars make their speed - the GT mid-corner and on exits, the Senna on straights. But of course, there can be only one winner...
