Whipple or TVS? Lots of questions before the big buy.

Not yet. I have it posted on facebook but haven't pushed it to hard yet.

Still debating on keeping it or getting one of those new 2.9s

That's a tough call....that gen4 is something wicked on E85, and they look cosmetically better than tvs....but it always comes back to what's the main intention for the car. Primarily street driven, the 2.3 would probably be the choice street light to street light, but any mexico pulls or track use that gen4 will whoop ass. Not sure what pulley setup you could even go to and get that gen4 in safe gasoline boost range.

no not the only thing. The car has an aluminator shortblock @ 10:1 and I called the tuner to ask about doing a dual tune. He said that they don't make a pulley setup large enough or small enough, whatever's required to get the boost down low enough to be able to get 15 lbs of boost IIRC totally what he said but that's the jist of it. If it was doable then I'd definitely consider the car for what I want to do with iit. Running pump gas would be the way to go for me and in fact if I bought a car that didn't have e85, now that I've thought about it and learned a little more about it, not sure just seeing that 700 hp number would be enough for me as to what I'll use the car for. No track and just a nice mean street car which I'll do a lot of cruising in as well

Gotcha....my bad for assuming it was a factory 8.5/1 motor. Ya, 10/1 would definitely be less pump gas friendly!

Yes, It's a Whipple 2.9 generation #4
if i had to buy new I'd definitely want something like the 2.3 and I like the VMP logo. So what other option(s) for a SC along that line would I have? It would likely be next year sometime before I'd even consider swapping to one from one of the cars I'm looking at that has a ported eaton.

The only other 2.3 I'm aware of is the whipple 2.3 (that's what I have). It's much maligned by the tvs crowd....but it's perfectly fine for a street car and runs very good spinning 22lbs on E85. They'll tell you "it makes no TQ..." but mine seems to make plenty of TQ, more than you'll ever really need on street tires.

it dynos 714/680. Just a simple setup...factory 04 motor, factory manifolds, catted xpipe, custom returnless fuel system. Although I've been tempted to swap out the blower for all the latest and greatest blowers that have come along.... Its had this same setup for ten years

If you are ever thinking about E85, go with a 1000cc injector. The FRPP 80s are kind of dead because they are really ONLY good for E85...they have poor low pulsewidth control. Stock 13-14 GT500 56s or 60s are great for gasoline only fuel.

Just reading this thread, I got a lot of love for our old 2.3l tvs. We have a couple complete units that we assembled from parts, just give VMP a call.

For the HP junkies out there, I have tested all of the "small blowers", sub 3l, and the cobra will make 750-800rwhp if you shove a ton of boost into it, but you won't see GT500 or coyote numbers until you build the motor. The 4.6 didn't get the displacement, cams, or head flow of the newer motors. So as much as some people want to believe, there is no magic solution to making 800rwhp on a stock motor.

Since you've tested them all....post up the overlay of the 2.65 vs 2.9 gen4. That would be a good comparison I think alot of people would want to see.
