As mentioned you'll have to drive it. My buddy bought a new C6Z and let me drive it. At the time I was driving a fairly stock 01 Cobra so the Vette was a rocket. Not too long ago I was looking at Vettes to change it up, but in the end I decided I love my Cobra too much. And to be honest if the Cobra ever sold I'd probably take a look at imports for a while to change it up.

So the heads aren't ported and no cam so that's why numbers seem a little low. Exhaust and supercharger only.

The two cars will drive very differently.

I would make the jump. The cobras aren't getting any shorter in the tooth. Approaching 20 years old.

I was shopping c6zs and ended up with a CTS - V

I echo the above, drive one and spend some time and see what you think.
Dad bought an '06z new when I was 22 and my brother and I had our first Black '04 Cobra new as well. I spent a lot of time in both cars.
The Z is a fantastic car... the chassis design, weight, power, brakes, dry sump oiling system,etc....night and day to Cobra.

But if given the opportunity, I would not trade my '04 for for a C6/C7. And this would be for pure emotional and preference reasons to me. The cockpit feel and visibility of the '04 is much more engaging, DOHC motor sound/performance, coolness factor, and a shorter wheelbase car with 4 seats is my jam. Same reason I love a nice 993/996 Porsche or Mk4 Supra

And the fact that to me the Cobra has always been the underdog to a corvette, and I love beating up on vette's :D

To me personally the cobra is a better more practical car. It has more potential with a proper fuel system and blower. You can haul around more than one passenger. It’s not expected to haul ass and be fast like a zo6 is. It’s that raw unrefined true muscle car power that just wants to eat vettes that out class it. The terminators are just iconic cult classics. They have attitude and character that’s just simply raw and in your face. The symphony that a blown 4V makes, especially under boost is just down right music. The left over 70’s-90’s tech with just the right amount of seasoning from the 2000’s turned into one of the last true muscle cars. The vette is just another middle aged crisis car. I had the opportunity to get a c6z and I went with a cobra.
That’s just my 2 cents and personal opinion. With whichever car you choose, you can’t go wrong and I’m sure you’ll be happy in a c6z. Good luck on your decisions

They're just two totally different cars. You have to go drive one to see for yourself....all the words typed in the world can't describe it properly.

Regardless, both these cars can turn into money pits very quickly, so you really need to look that c6z over with a fine tooth comb. If you think a used terminator needs a pre purchase compression test....you can triple that urgency for a supercharged ls7. Even at only 4.5psi. Those motors were high compression all out NA power plants and I'd be extremely leary of buying a used s/c c6z unless it checks out with flying colors. Make sure the hydraulic clutch system/slave is up to snuff once its heated up. Don't just spin it around a parking lot....get in some traffic if possible after a pull, verify it won't stick to the floorboard.

Good luck

Thank you for the words of advice. Already have a guy on hold for compression and leak down test if I decide I want this.

What are the details on the car you're thiknig about selling?

Color? owners? accidents?
Black with black convertible top. I'm not looking at the title, but I think I was 3rd or 4th owner. No accidents.

I would definitely drive one and see if you like it over your cobra. That's the only way you'll know if it's what you want.

From personal experience, I really like how the c6z's drive and perform. I've never owned one, however I am a chevy technician by trade. I'm "corvette certified" so I'm usually the tech that works on them primarily. Over the years I've driven plenty of them. From stock, to heads/cam/FBO cars, to blower cars, and various modded and stock ZR1's. The two are very different cars obviously, but they are very close in the form of driving enjoyment I would say.

Both have their pluses and minuses. I would love to own one personally, they drive fantastic, and are very fun. They are relatively reliable cars aside from the heads, clutch hydraulics and rear diff chatter. But I feel the biggest downside to the Z for me is that there's no back seat, and I have 2 small kids that love car rides. I have always hated the seats in the Z compared to the cobra. They both use a ton of plastic, and both will rattle so I feel they are on par there.

The other thing to consider is this. I've never been in one of these cars, that was able to get traction, lol. Regardless of tire choice. Probably the fact that most are running a low pro wheel/tire, some still on EMT tires, but they are light cars. So for me that's big too, because my car never has an issue with traction (power numbers in sig), and I feel anything smaller than an 18/19" wheel doesn't look great on those cars IMHO, unless you're gonna be on a bigs n littles setup all the time. Good friend of mine has an '08 Z fbo heads/cam/blower on E85. Car makes something like 750 whp. He wont do anything with it unless he's on the freeway.

my 2 cents. Good luck with you decision!

Lots of good info there brother! I have one kid and I did think about having no rear seat also. She enjoys her car rides. Thing is usually it's just her in the car with me so it'll be just fine. The times I've had my wife in the passenger and kid in the car seat in the back, my wife was slammed against the dash anyways and wasn't comfortable at all lol. Hmmm, I didn't think about the vette rattling like the mustang honestly. Figured it was much more solid. I can't get traction in my car right now with MT drag radials. I assumed with a decent tire on the z06 it would hook.

I hear ya man, my wife hasn't been in my car in like a year haha, and it would be the same, slammed in to the dash. But I guess it depends on how old your kid is. My oldest is 3 and the other is 5 months, so he doesn't ride in the car much yet other than going to daycare, but both aren't front seat ready lol.

As far as the rattling goes, the z's are pretty solid, as they were all fixed roof cars, and my cobra is a coupe, I don't have any experience with a vert to know if they rattle a lot or not, lol, but the z uses just as much plastic and similar materials as the cobras do, lol. The removable top c6's are known for top rattles like crazy.

I remember my buddy having a similar issue with his ZO6. And it was just an intake and tune. I think the main issue was the run flats. After one of the "uncommanded lane changes" he switched up the tires.

Well, I'm definitely not getting rid of my car for this one guys lol. And maybe never! It's like comparing apples to oranges, but I'll take my imperfect orange all day. This car just didn't feel like mine at all. Apparently I prefer the raw ****ing violence of my e85 twin screw car over the "ok I'm going a little" centrifugal supercharged car. I loved the shifter location and hydraulic clutch, but it was not enough for me. My car is not nearly as rigid and tight as the z06, but I'm not into road racing shi idgaf really. Wow, I'm glad I drove that car. My expectations were way too high.

And that is why you drive it before you buy it.
