For what it's worth, every company you are with will increase rates.

Insurance isn't profitable like it was 8-10 years ago.

We see rates increase every year.

I didn’t read everyone’s responses but here’s my .02 cents as someone in collision repair that has a direct repair program with about every major insurance company. USAA on average has better parts usage rules starting out with all OEM parts for all vehicles 2 years old or newer from the production date, and from there when they do utilize aftermarket parts they are much better quality selection then their counter parts selection specially with Geico. As far as I see they go out of their way to take care of their customers where many other companies fall short.

Just my opinion but if it weren’t for the fact I get dirt cheap rates through Allstate and I work in a shop so I utilize stuff at cost, I’d either have USAA or Erie insurance, then Travelers, State Farm and so on. Geico would be bottom of my list, you get what you pay for.

I'm about to switch to Costco insurance.

I had no idea they were in the business.

Sure, but over $6,000 total increase from 1 policy to the next renewal is not acceptable. Especially not that I have less coverage due to refusing the umbrella policy.

Good insight. I appreciate the info.

It's a partner program, but it a significant savings over State Farm.

Ive got USAA for auto and home owners.

The auto policy is full coverage for my 2019 Mustang, my 2016 Ram truck, wife's 2002 suburban, my 1994 c1500 chevy truck, and my 2019 5th wheel RV/toybox. Annual payment is roughly $2500/year.

My rates have not moved a whole lot over the last few years but im always willing to take a peek and see what else is out there.

I did have to use them to repair 2 cars over the last 5 years via Comp claims (no fault) and each repair was roughly $4,000. My rates didnt move at all after those claims which impressed me.

I am wondering if any members have recently left USAA for auto (and home) insurance? If so, are you happy with the new company and would you be willing to PM me the company name?

USAA was recently purchased by PNC bank and it took no time at all for them to screw us.

Evidently, PNC changed USAA's methods of evaluating and billing for risk. They are now refusing to renew our umbrella policy. My home policy went up $2,400 a year with only one claim in 20 years. It was $7,000 in hail damage to the roof, of which they will recover 100% of that and more, over the course of 3 years, if I were to stay with them.

My auto policy went up $3,800 a year. I have had one at fault claim and one moving violation since 1997. And the moving violation was 3 years ago, but they decided to increase my rates this renewal because of it, regardless of the fact that I am +5 points (the highest/best you can get in VA) and I have voluntarily gone to drivers ed classes since then.

I am going to start shopping around, but its always nice to get some firsthand feedback.

TIA,
Spaz

USAA sucks for insurance. left them even before pnc buyout.

Wait...when did this happen??

@jmsa540, when did what happen? PNC purchasing USAA or me getting screwed? LOL

I don't know exactly when the purchase happened. I first noticed a letter USAA sent me in November of 2018. The footer said something like "USAA Property and Casualty Insurance Group. A subsidiary of PNC Bank."

Ive been with them since may 09.

I think pnc just bought their mutual fund stuff. A query search implies that.

Not sure what it was that you saw, but USAA is not a subsidiary of anyone. They are a reciprocal company owned by their members; there was not a PNC buyout.

However, Victory Capital did just acquire USAAs Asset Management Division for $850M. This is a sore subject within my family because my father played a major role in building said Asset Management (Investment) Division in the late 80s early 90s.

I’ve personally seen the Internal changes made to the company over the last 2 decades (the last decade being the most adverse) and I’ll say this; it revolves around workforce appeasement and pandering.

@BRNG ITT the letter I received was to inform me that they were restructuring and changing the way they did things. I mostly ignored it because it implied it was internal and wouldn't impact customers. I do specifically remember the footer implied that USAA (or at least the division I'm in) is some how owned or subordinated to PNC. I wish I still had it so I could be exact.

Well yeah, I was more speaking in terms of everyone saying their rates were raising with X company.

I wouldn't stand for a $1,000 increase, let alone $6,000.

Also, forgot to mention it before, but I obviously have USAA for insurance. Haven’t had to make a homeowners claim (knock on wood), but I be had more than my fair share of auto claims.

Their insurance isn’t the cheapest out there, but I’ve had nothing but positive experiences with how they have handled my claims. 95ish% of our claims were not our fault, and they have always put in into a rental and paid for all costs immediately wether the claim was going into subrogation or arbitration.

My opinion is obviously anecdotal and a bit biased, but many (not all) of the negative stories I hear about them involve people that are being unreasonable, impatient, or a combination of both.

When all is said and done, I’ve had a great overall 26 years with all aspects of the institution, and I will continue to pay a little bit more for that.

I had been with USAA since 1986. I switched to GEICO about 6 years ago. I was shocked to find that I could keep the same coverage and save nearly 60%. Yes, 60%. I was so pissed. I wish that I had looked into the whole "5 minutes could save you 15% or more" so much sooner.

My home owners is with Liberty, via GEICO. I still have a USAA checking account and credit card. I have yet to find another bank that can compete with the interest rate on the CC.

My story is almost exactly the same except I was with Allstate, not USAA.

60% cheaper with the same exact coverage. When I called Allatate to cancel they asked if they could see if they could match the new rate I was offered. I told them that would just piss me off more that they could have been charging me half for years but didn't.

I am pretty much in the same boat. They have always been prompt and provided great service with defending us and working with our attorneys.

I'm just bent out of shape over the rapid and dramatic price increase for 1 ticket and one "at fault accident" in near 30 years.

Weird. First ever I've heard people bitch about USAA.

Their customer service is unsurpassed and you can't beat their car insurance.

Homeowners tends to be higher, but antedotic experience shows that is because they are hassle free and generous with coverages.

I pay $1200 a year full coverage on a Cobra, Tacoma and G55 with $500 deductibles.

bingo, same here...left several years ago as rates kept creeping up with no tickets, accidents. I went to Liberty Mutual and they basically did the same shit, so I am now with Allstate for our primary cars and got classic for my 99SS.

FWIW I still bank with them, loans etc...
My scenario is opposite yours. We had Allstate for over 30 years and then about 8 years ago it started going downhill with crappy service and constantly increasing rates. Five years ago when I found out that they were overcharging me on my auto policy, I said bye-bye to Allstate and switched to USAA. My rate with USAA was about 60% of what it was with Allstate. Since then, my rates on auto and home are consistently lower than competitor rates I've looked at. And service has been excellent. Only one claim in that time., 3 years ago. I was driving a rental truck and damaged it. A lot of damage to the top of the box. My rate didn't go up, which was great. That said, it sounds like it wouldn't be a bad idea to check again, based on some of the comments in this thread.

My experience with USAA is similar to yours. Unsurpassed customer service, their homeowner coverage is generous and they don't push me to increase my coverages more than I need to. No hassles ever.

What add-ons and coverage caps you have, drastically impact your price.

For example, I have full collision coverage for ACV +20% for all of my vehicles, $1M liability for injury, $250,000 in property damage liability, and several other high cap services. If I drop to the minimum state requirements, which is $25k UM, I would be paying less then $1k a year, but then I'm at risk for property seizure if I lose a $100,000 law suit. I like my house. I'd like to stay living here. LoL

Has anybody received any insurance dividends from them lately? I just realized I haven't had one in several years, I've been with them since 2003.

Op, I am planning on talking to a local insurance broker and seeing what savings I can get by bundling home, auto, landlord, and business liability with someone else. Currently I have auto and landlord policies with USAA, and home and windstorm with another company.
Nope...i ask all the time when i call them. Last one i got was 2010.
