Anybody had/have one? What was your take on them?
Two of my friends have them, both 08’s with 150-175k miles with zero issues. I think the trucks are a blast to drive, sound good, look good, and are fast (for a truck). I just started reading some other forums about issues and see valve train and cracked pistons popping up. We’re these really that common? Would sure hate to buy a truck and blow it up right away.
Just looking for a truck that I would enjoy driving as a daily.

Well.

The 7.3s were very dependable but lacked power.
The 6.0s were about 50/50 on dependability and had more power, with A LOT of aftermarket options.
The 6.4s could pull a house, but got terrible fuel mileage. They're dependability past 150k is scary though.

The bad thing about the 6.4L is, if you have to replace it, it's easily $12-15k, while a 6.0L would be $5k.

I'd either go 6.0L and bulletproof it, or go with a newer 6.7L. I have wholesalers that won't even give bids on the 6.4L's.

The guy knows trucks, but he's of course biased haha

He doesn't want people to buy any warranties (extended service contracts), because the vast majority of companies will not authorize repairs at his shop.

He's a negative nancy on buying trucks from dealerships...I'm not sure why. I wonder if he sells them from his shop?

Depends on how deep your pockets are. I was a diesel tech at Ford and worked their through the 7.3DI, 6.0, 6.4 and the 6.7. The 7.3 was great but the transmissions were not reliable. The 6.0 had the headgasket/egr/oil cooler issues but the transmission was stout. The 6.4 had oil cooler issues, rockers that would come apart and destroy the engine, pistons cracking and rods bending, a host of other issues. The early 6.7 had problems with the exhaust valves dropping and ruining the engine. The 6.4 and 6.7 have had radiator problems too. If I were to get one, I would get a 6.0 and bullet proof the thing.

@13COBRA yeah he does sell trucks from his shop. Sometimes he’ll advertise them on YouTube.

As far as 04-07 6.0 powerstrokes, no emissions crap, like the 6.4 and 6.7 with the DEF and DPF yeah you can delete that stuff but the 6.0 doesn’t have any of that. Address the issues bullet proof it and be done. Solid trucks.

People talk crap about them but when done right, there’s not much to argue about.

Yeah. There are plenty of terrible 3rd party service contract companies, but there are some good ones. Some are better than Ford's.

Makes a lot more sense.

I remember when the 6.4 first came out it was all the rage. Ive since not followed lol.

What, specifically, are the long term reliability issues? I have heard about radiator and radiator supports cracking/breaking.

My plan is to eventually find a super clean 6.0, bulletproof it, and mod it a little (because I can’t help myself). I like not having all the modern BS on it. The newer 6.4 and 6.7s are gorgeous trucks but the enviro-nannies scare me.

Yeah, but just like anything you have good and bad. We offer an extended service contract through Century Automotive. We sit on the board and can get just about anything covered. We authorize fixes on big horsepower cars and modded trucks all the time.

Yeah...but just delete them. It's unbelievable how much better the new ones drive.

I'll have to keep that in mind on the warranties.

I'd love to delete all that shit on our 2 6.7s but being in the company name with a DOT number I'm not willing to roll those dice. Maybe we should just finish bullet proofing our 6.0 after all.

Not worth it.

I hear you - but what about the piston and rod issues on those newer motors? I’m a long way from getting one and I have to confess I haven’t done any research on the 6.4 and later motors. Just going on what I’ve heard.

I would not buy a 6.4L if it were to be for 50% LTV.

We haven't had an issue with our 6.7Ls. I have at least 8 customers that have put over 300k on theirs with just standard maintenance.

i think 6.7's will be the new 7.3. i've seen 6.7's with 500k selling online.
