High horsepower (let's say 700+) guys; do you ever regret it?

To much cam in my 3V right now, low vacuum at idle and a complete bitch to start on E85 race fuel. Gonna go back to a stage 1 cam and get off the race gas with a pump E85 flex tune. Be interesting to see what happens to power. Just not making it to the strip enough to justify keeping it maxed out, time to bring it back to the street trim.

It's really not worth it to have anything nice.

Feels like we're penalized for having nice things. Plus, you have something nice to lose.

All it takes is some little **** named Dakota to skip school, drive around barely insured in a ****box Honda, slam into you head on and he gets to walk away unscathed because he's a worthless scumbag. But you? You have money and things to lose, so you lose.

I guess that's sort of my biggest regret with any performance vehicle I've ever owned- simply the fact that it was something nice. Always worrying about it, watching to make sure some lazy scumbag doesn't slam their door into it, making sure people don't lean against it while lighting their cigarette (happens a lot in SC for some reason, people don't respect others' property). I've actually had to yell at people multiple times for leaning on my Volvo in a parking lot, like "oh look a free couch, how about I just park my ass on this rando's car." Lots of worry over a "thing."

Stop worrying, it solves nothing.

Totally true. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. Worrying is my worst bad habit and logically it makes no sense.

What's funny is that before I bought the GT500, my wife asked me multiple times if I would actually use it. Of course, in my mind, I'm going "uhhh yeah, I'll drive it every day!" Then I got the thing, and it sat unused most of the time. I'd clean it, and want to preserve it. The best memories I've had with it were driving it up through the mountains with my wife- just casually cruising and seeing how far I could get on a single tank of gas, not walking by it in the garage when I go to take the garbage out.

I once saw a guy put out his cigarette on the hood of my 930. I guess he was jealous or something. Police were called...

I still drive it all the time. 79,xxx miles and counting.

It's one thing leaning against a car but when someone appears to be scratching their itchy ass on your fender it's a little much. Volvo or any other car. Just the idea of it......twitching up and down, side to side on your freshly waxed butt scratcher. Nope. Not good!

I am serious. I parked about halfway out in a parking lot and some dumb idiot was half-sitting on the hood/fender of my car talking with some other idiot who had pulled up in a pickup truck a few spaces over. That was back when my Volvo was relatively new too.

Another time, when I had my SV650, I left a restaurant and saw some moron sitting on it while his friends were taking pictures of him pretending to race.

People have zero respect for anything that isn't theirs, and in most cases, little to no respect for what they themselves own.

If I see someone lean against a car that isn't theirs, I instantly have zero respect for them. They can trash what they own all they want. Those types of people are trash and I don't want them around me or anything I own.

Granted, I get it, I take it to the opposite extreme. I'm afraid of touching half of what I own because I can't stand the thought of things degrading or getting damaged. Seems to be a family curse- my father's side lost everything they own to a house fire in the 70's and they're the same way. I lost everything due to flooding and theft in '10.

But, looking at things in the middle... Things break, things wear, that's life. I try to respect other people's belongings, and get upset when people don't extend the same courtesy. Welcome to Earth, right? Haha. :(

I think some of you are misunderstanding what I'm saying as it's not a drivability issue. As cliche as it sounds, my car drives like stock until I ask it not to.

But whoever brought up the 600cc vs 1000cc bike comparison is spot on. My car is a daily driver with over 800 horsepower. Now granted it's not on a sticky tire at the moment and that could solve the majority of the skating around at triple digits, but I guess I'm talking more about the window of error that comes at upper horsepower levels. And remember, too, this is my first rodeo. And while it's true you can get nabbed speeding in anything, I don't have a lead foot issue as it's not like I'm getting nailed every so often going to work or running around town.

It's just a lot of car for the street is all, especially on a daily basis and being addicted to going fast. I have a dedicated daily, but I just can't do boring. Lol

Edit: On 93 at 625/650 it's about like my nitrous car was. Definitely more manageable and useful. It's on E where it gets crazy.

I'll bite.

Last car was much like yours, twin turbo coyote making around 730rwhp. Bought it used, but it was a Hellion car with 55mm turbos and a built motor. I bought the car to have fun and keep miles off my King Ranch F-350, figured I'd kill two birds with one stone. So, I daily drove the car for a while which was pointless. First week, I almost wrecked the car around 50mph because I was on street tires, completely blew the tires off the car in second gear at part throttle, just normal driving. The car would hook over 80mph on street tires for the most part. But I live in Florida, so daily driving on drag radials wasn't idea.

Second time was from a 40 roll in 3rd gear, the car got so far away me I surely thought I was going to wreck the car. Never thought I would have a problem at that low of a speed in 3rd gear. But the 55's just spooled up so quick.

Third time I was at 3/4 around 110mph and the back end came out, I couldn't have been at over 3-4psi. Extremely cold morning.

The car basically lived on a drag radial after that. I barely drove the car due to the weather in Florida.

Looking back, I should have set up the boost controller to a more manageable PSI or boost by gear. Probably should had done a wider Michelin Pilot Sport tire (Yes expensive, but would have been more manageable in the rain).

All in all, I rarely was able to drive the car to it's full potential for fear of jail time. Although, I pretty much knew where most of the cops would sit around us so it was always a planned pull. Rarely did I ever do a random pull to over a 100mph.

i dont see the fun in driving a stupidly overpowered rwd car as a DD. You only get 2 or 3 seconds of WOT before you hit triple digit, go directly to jail or crash and burn speeds.

and thats if you're lucky and theres no bad spot on the road that makes your rear axle spot places with the front.

most of these cars cant hook and are virtually worthless unless they go from a high roll. 700 ponies is way too much unless you have AWD or a proper chassis midengined supercar.

Guilty as charged. It's dangerous as hell. 25% throttle in 1st is enough to go sideways. A quick "bark" in 3rd, regardless of speed or rpm, is enough to spin the tires. And I have two witnesses who can testify that the car is capable of spinning the tires in 5th on the highway just rolling on the throttle. Granted, I don't screw around like this (and haven't done a single burnout), but you have to know the limits of the car and traction. Current limit = not much. That's one of the reasons that I baby the car so much.

I remember when I had my KB'd '00 GT with 4.10s, going from 225 Continentals to 315 NT555Rs was insane. It could actually hook 90% of the time on the street. When I put MT ETs on the back on the track, that blew my mind even further. That was a ~400rwhp car.

I can't imagine what my GT500 would be like with MT ETs on it. Only thing stopping me from doing it is that I'm trying to sell the poor thing.

No shit, I thought @7upstang account was an elaborate joke. "After the 4th time I almost killed myself I decided to switch tires..." Rereading it I realize it was not. Goddam.

Psshh, why spend money on tires when you can just lighten your foot up a little... Right? Right? :(

Besides, we're supposed to be keeping up the reputation of being uncontrollable crowd-eating monsters. When I left the car show on Saturday, there was a line of people recording, waiting for me to do something stupid. I revved it up, then... took off granny-style.

Yep, pretty stupid. Lesson learned, just trying to be honest to help others. Yes, situations do get out of hand very quickly and I would like others to learn from my mistake.

Only one of those times I actually was in full boost on purpose, so I started in 3rd gear around 40mph, with no one around. Hence why I bought drag radials very quickly. It's not like I was out there making a ton of full pulls trying to get a standard tire to hook. I just had to pay a ton of attention and had to be very cautious when I drove the car on regular tires.
