What long tubes allow for clutch swaps?

I’m picking up my first terminator tomorrow, I’m very excited and looking forward to enjoying the car every chance the weather permits. It will always be a street car and I’m not a numbers chaser, but I will be modding the stock engine with bolts ons to include a bigger blower.

I would like to swap out the headers for long tubes, it already has Magnaflow catted x pipe and a Borla cat back. Are there any headers that allow for a clutch swap without removing/loosening the headers? Also, only interested in stainless steel.

Thanks!

I have the jba longtubes which are more of a midlength. Stainless steel, fit well, and have more ground clearance than my stock manifolds with aftermarket midpipe.

So if i went this route I could keep my magnaflow x pipe with cats?

Has anyone done electronic dumps right off the headers?

No. You'd need a mid pipe to match the headers. Friend of mine did a cut out further back, but he doesn't have cats so it's the same as being off the header really.

IMO, since you're not looking for every last horsepower save your money and time and keep the stock logs. Lots of people make big power with them.

I'm just looking for sound, not doing this for any other reason. I also plan on having cams installed, just for the pure joy of hearing it lub.

I bought the jba H pipe because thats all they offer. I didn't like the sound so i cut the front pipes off the jba h pipe and spliced that into my offroad xpipe with bullet mufflers in it. It would probably work on your catted x too.

As long as you know for similar money and less work you could gain 200hp with a blower swap vs 75hp with cams and headers. The blower will drive like stock, lopey cams will make you want to sell the car.

This reason along with being half the price is why I went with MAC.
I have my reasons why I'll never buy a Mac product again. Happened many years ago, won't go into detail.

On a side note I have ARH headers and did a clutch swap this past October.

There is a very high likely hood it'll get a 2.3 or 2.9 whipple as well. What characteristics do the cams change that would make me want to sell it? I've never had a car with aftermarket cams, I have however, always loved the sound they make.

Same here, they tuck up to the body very nicely, best option for ground clearance.

Post #14. If you do some searching you ll see malcolm went to great lengths to try to make his lopey cams work.

More lopey cam problems

Lopey cams = high overlap = low vacuum = bad driveability. Now you can go bigger cams but if you want to enjoy the car you ll want low overlap thus no lope.

That is excellent info, @cj428mach. Worthwhile reading for @JCDriller before making the decision to go the cams route. Those threads in part explain why so few Terminator owners have gone that route.

wow @cj428mach thanks! I’ll read all that, I definitely don’t want an undeivable car.

I did get the car this morning, very nice car from another active member. Can’t wait to start building it.

I have Kooks long tubes 1 3/4”x 3” and you can do clutch swaps without touching them at all. I literally just did my clutch swap. The worst part is getting to the starter bolts with long tubes.
