A new report has provided more information on the reasoning behind the delay of the mid-engine Corvette C8.

Similar to our previous exclusive report on the matter, Hagerty alleges that a complicated new electrical architecture is one of the reasons behind the delays. This next-generation electrical system, which will feature a number of computers that will talk to each other via Local Area Network (LAN), is posing a number of problems for engineers. The electrical architecture will not only appear on the mid-engine Corvette, but on a number of other upcoming General Motors vehicles as well.

Additionally, the Corvette team has apparently hit a roadblock with regards to the C8 Corvette’s chassis stiffness. Hagerty says that one prototype equipped with a particularly powerful, 900-1,000 hp version of the supercar’s new twin-turbocharged V8 engine experienced “structural distortion of the aluminum spaceframe,” upon acceleration which even broke the rear engine compartment glass. This has sent Chevy back to the drawing board for the new MR platform, although it’s not clear if this problem has been solved yet.

The third and final reason for the delay, per Hagerty’s source, is an unknown disagreement between the designers and the development engineers. The publication didn’t specify what the issue was, so it could be with regards to interior ergonomics or outward visibility, among a host of other potential problems.

Despite these delays, GM and Chevy are still expected to debut the C8 Corvette sometime later this year. It’s not clear when or where the highly anticipated supercar may be unveiled, but considering the importance behind the Corvette name and the hype behind this project, it definitely justifies its own reveal event.

All I can say is I wouldn’t buy a first year new gen Corvette anyway, but this one sounds like I wouldn’t for a few years at least. Tons of bugs they need to work out!
With that said, a 900-1000hp version sounds pretty intriguing!

Let's be honest with ourselves....now is the time to discover these issues, before the car reaches the public. I'm sure they are running 1000 hp motors to do accelerated wear and tear testing

Im going to put my money on things that never happened for $100. This day and age with the programs and material development and you are trying to tell me the corvette team is bending frames? Naaaah.

Why is that so hard to believe?
1000hp bending a frame sounds pretty believable to me.
Not everything is successful on the first try.

Maybe that was over dramatic but it would be understandable that they don’t like a given amount of twisting the frame may do under hard acceleration periods.

The car has been in testing for like 8 years at least, with the amount of cars they for sure use as a templates to copy off of and tweak to their specs I find it absolutely unbelieveable. I think the delay is all beancounter related
My old 99 Cobra blew the rear glass out making a turn into a steep parking lot.
Sounds like you had some underlying issues as thats certainly not normal lol

I wish they'd call it something else. It just doesn't have the Corvette muscle car look to it at all anymore. The C7 doesn't either, I guess, but this is much different.

It was an unmolested, low mileage car. It happened to the person I sold it to soon after they bought it. Maybe a detail is missing but the glass installer said it wasn't the first one that came in for it. My next 03 Cobra convertible cracked the front windshield when I jacked the rear corner of the car up. Split from pass lower corner up on an angle.

I didn't realize how much my 08 S197 twisted until I had front and rear shock tower braces and my 6 point rollbar installed. I started jacking the front passenger side to put a stand in place and the back came off the ground at the same time, freaked me out!

I love the LAN issue.

GM can't figure out what machine manufacturers have been doing for almost 2 decades now.

But, cool to see them actually trying to implement it as opposed to CAN.
