What’s required to install a used F150 engine in a 16 mustang with hurt engine? Does 15-17 F150 engine work the best?

if you're dead set on using a truck motor, then the 15-17 would be your best starting point so you'll still have most of the Gen2 upgrades. You'll have to reuse your Mustang cams (maybe phasers too?) since the Gen2 trucks have a different firing order. You'll also need to reuse your intake manifold since the trucks are speed density. Mustang front cover too.

Thanks for responding. My son doesn’t have lots of money and I heard the Truck engine might be considerably cheaper. We don’t know yet how bad his engine is hurt. It locked up. He had too much pulley for 91. So, when he gets a bit more money we will get it diagnosed. I didn’t know how much different the truck motors are

If it's locked up it's probably toast.

Pretty sure all Coyotes are the same firing order, and people upgrade to the Mustang cams for power not because they have to. Also, truck manifolds are interchangeable with the Mustang manifolds. Thirdly, he won't be using any manifold since the car it's going into has a PD blower.

Only Gen 1 truck/Mustang Coyotes shared the same firing order. Gen 1 trucks have the same exhaust cams as Mustangs, but have a different intake cam set designed for low rpm power. Mustang intake cam swap is indeed a very common mod for power gain. But Gen 2 & 3 trucks indeed have a different firing order than Mustangs. Cams are the same lift/duration/etc specs, just a different firing order. Coyote swap guys with have been able to have some tuners change the firing order in the PCM (since the control packs have Mustang firing order) to run Gen 2 truck motors, but most just swap the cams and be done with it.

I didn't catch the Roush TVS, my bad. But just for reference, you are correct that truck and Mustang intakes are interchangeable... but the intakes are different. Gen 1 Mustang/truck intakes are the same just different color. But Gen 2+ truck intakes had provision for a MAP sensor since they switched to speed density while Mustangs remained mass air. Gen 2+ truck intakes are also tuned with longer runners for low rpm power which would obviously be a decrease in performance in a Mustang application.

I have a 13 with a tvs as reflected in my signature. I put a 82mm pulley on mine before I switched to 91 for the winter. My son with the bad engine also has a roush blower on his 16. He left a 75 Pulley on his with 91. Not too bright! It is taking him awhile to save up the money to start on his car. He bought a Jeep for a daily. I saw some fairly low mile Gen 2 Mustang engines starting about $4500 where F150 engines are about $2500

You can also try a boss 302 cam, they’re cheap at ~$400. Obviously for this application it’s a bad idea being a blower car, but it’s an option
