Track car, road.

HPDE as PCA instructor.

Car has a long list of killer suspension and brake mods. Great set up. Corners and stops frantastic. Just under powered for the weight.

Motor is stock, except for predator tune and CAI, no cats and Ford Racing F500 mufflers.

Compression test showed 165 on all but two. 135 on those.

So its top end build or Coyote.

Ideas?

Where would you buy parts and what budget for Coyote?

Anyone done this already care to share?

I would coyote swap if you haven't already started building the 4.6. For the cost, you'll get more power & more reliably. I just built my 4.6 last summer(out of necessity, bad rod bearing), and had I known at the time how much I was going to end up spending, I'd have went ahead and spent more on a coyote swap.

Id look at price of what you want to do really and if its a track car will the 5.0 mess with the weight ratio in a positive or negative way?

I dont beleive so. Weight difference is minimal and with corner balance and coilovers I have lots of adjustability.

Coyote engine 7k
Harness 1,5k
K member 600
Long tube headers 700
Tune ?
misc 1k

I am figuring I can get the swap done around 12k if I do all the labor.

Just hoping someone has a parts list and a recommendation on where to buy all this stuff? Summit, Ford Performance, or?

I think you could build a ~ 3.7x3.7 BB stroker (5.3L) for less..
or if concerned about the stroke for racing..call MMR and get a ~ 3.7x3.6 BB stroker (5.1L+) built.

The 5.0 coyote is ~ 3.6x3.6....
MMR retrofited the ford crank for the 4,6 blocks.

While I'm a fan of the Boss block I wouldn't do it in this case. I'd stick with the aluminum block for the weight balance.

Yes I don't like that MMR uses the iron block either...
OP could always locate an '05+ aluminator, 01-04 WAP or Teksid block..

Pick up a used coyote engine, Hell it can even be a F150 coyote, then just swap the cams.. You can use your K-member you're currently using too.. It can be done for much cheaper than 12k.

I like the idea of keeping my original engine. But the cost to upgrade it to compare to Coyote level performance is whats holding me back.

With a lightweight K member the weight difference minimal. HP is what the 99 is lacking.

Monday I will be talking with MMR. While I continue to build a parts list for Coyote.

Coyote is netting ~370 rwhp...
4.6 can as well...

RWHP:
This is what I call the NASVT recipe.
It is a list of na mods recommended by na svt (Todd Warren) from various threads. na svt graciously fixed it for me.

There you go....$3500+..your labor.

8888888888888888
888888888888
NASVT fixed!!!
NA ~320 RWHP with 99-01 DOHC C-Head 4.6L:
K&N filter
OEM Cams
March damper
March hydraboost and WP pulleys
Long tubes
Hi Flow Cats/Cat Delete mid-pipe
Tune (canned..more $ for real tuner tune)

360-370 RWHP:
106100/106060 comp cams properly degreed.
short runner.
Tune

NOTE:
SR is not needed for <7K RPM and nasvt (Todd Warren) has better custom cams available NOW...and cheaper!!

A build stroker or big bore stroker will make more with the above mods being transferred over.

Heads can be ported and exhaust valves opened up for better flow at that time..along with #39 injectors/FP upgrade and Lightning or slotted MAF..

I'd suggest you sit down and really crunch the numbers on the Coyote. A couple guys have done it on another forum I'm on and both said it was a lot more expensive than they originally thought. It doesn't sound like you want/need much from what you have. Freshen the short block. Even if you need pistons it's not like you need top of the line forged pistons. Hell, if you're staying N/A I'd stick with hypereutectic. They're lighter anyway. While you're there bump the compression a bit for a little more power. Get the heads cleaned up. Maybe some light port work. Cams are an option since you're in there.

But let's be honest, if you're wanting to keep up with Corvettes then you're probably going to need forced induction. Even with a Coyote. You're at a severe weight and aerodynamic disadvantage.

How bad do you want to out run them?

Hope to stay NA.

C5 and C6 mostly nothing modern.

Engine 6,200 Summit or Ford Performance Gen II
Control pack; harness and ecu 1,500
Long tubes 800
K Member 800
Clutch and flywheel 1k
New, larger radiator?
Custom Tune?

Need another 100HP or so.

Other option is build the 99 Cobra motor.

I can do all the labor except for custom tune.

If I pull my low mi 37k engine which engine builder in CA for a road race build and how much less might we be talking?

I built my big bore set up for around $5k. But I assembled it myself. I had a local machine shop do the machine work. The list that Shurur posted is a pretty good one to follow.

The guy that bought my 01 dropped a pretty nasty N/A engine in it. I think it was in the low 400rwhp range and spun to 8k. I doubt you'd need to get that crazy, but I'm guessing the extra RPM would help you.

Unfortunately I have no suggestions for engine builders. There really aren't any that I trust. I'm pretty OCD about this stuff and have a hard time farming out work.

Okay, here is where Ive landed.

MMR can build me a stroker motor 10k

Ford Racing.Performance Coyote Aluminator 10k.

I am leaning on Aluminator.

Where to buy?
