So tax return season is upon us and I want to finally get a new bigger blower. My ultimate goal is 750-800 rwhp without dipping into the engine internals. I'm stuck between the gen 3 2.9 Whipple and the gen 3 vmp. I really want the Whipple based on looks and displacement but the new vmp blower has the sound and the torque #'s even though I hate the way it looks. I assume the vmp sounds louder due to being spun harder than the whipple which has me concerned about the heat produced by the vmp. I drive my car daily in Texas heat and I'd have serious buyers remorse if I have issues cooling it. I do have a killer chiller installed to combat excessive heat but would like to minimize heat as much as possible. Also I plan to install a 15% lower since I have the stock boat anchor still on. Which blower would you choose?

Id go with a gen2r.
Gen3 isn't worth the "upcharge" over the Gen2r
You gotta crack the engine open for cams to hit 760RWHP

Starting modding my 11 with a FRPP 750 kit, which got me 656rw, Whipple 2.9. Added several other upgrades, resulting in 776rw, without building the bottom end.
This was no canned tune, which I feel had a lot to do with the results & safety.
It can be done..

regardless of what you get, pd blowers have heat soak to a certain extent.

I watched JD's video which is what made me consider the vmp. Not sure why I would need to install cams to reach those #'s. I already have all basic mods on my car except fuel and lower crank. I should be able to get close with 21-23#'s of boost. I also plan to spray water/meth through the blower. But if I can't get there without cracking the motor open then I may just abandon the whole thing and see how far I can take the stock blower.

I'd go with a Gen3 TVS. Weir Racing did a direct comparison on back to back days, nearly identical conditions. Faster times were run with the TVS. I believe the video is on their Facebook page if you want to track it down.

Can't go wrong with a TVS, the power band is excellent from down low to the upper end. A 13-14 take off, VMP Gen2, VMP Gen2r or their latest creation the Gen3, they are all good choices.

Go with the whipple 2.9 gen 3. It will be the easiest to make 750-800. Youll need a fuel system.

Dont waste your time getting a 15% lower just get a new 2008+ style.

I see you have a killer chiller for heat.

you will need E85 or cams to hit 800rwhp. Not sure how many tuners will tune for meth. May be able to get there on a 93/boostane tune.

What is exactly the henderance on making 750+ rwhp on a stock motor with proper fuel and intake/exhaust mods? I plan to use the water/meth as a safety net not specifically tuned for it. I like the idea of e85 but it's not widely available and I daily drive my gt500 so e85 is out the question. My main goal is to not get destroyed by every hellcat in my area I would at least like to put up a fight. Otherwise I might as well save my money and join the club lol.

I do not agree you need CAMs to get to 800rwhp. There are many recipes that will get you there, and that is about the limit for the stock bottom end. You will need a full bolt-on setup(CAI/TB/Headers). You will likely need a boost-a-pump or injectors to give your fuel system some safety margin. You are correct in looking at way to safely increase timing and boost, because that is how you get power. I would go Gen 3 2.9, as it avoid the TB issues with the VMP gen 3. I like the way the Whipples pull up top as well, where the TVS has a great hit, but can be flat up top.

You need a bigger blower or cams to hit 800rwhp on 93 octane. Hindrance on pump 93 is you just don’t have enough octane for the increased timing and boost required to hit that HP number.

For example, I hit 765 wheel on a built 5.8 with JDM cams and a bone stock TVS, 2.5 upper, 10% lower on pump 93. Maybe could’ve hit 800 with a Gen2R, but that was WITH cams and an extra .4L displacement.

After doing some high-tech research on Youtube (sarcasm) it looks like you may be right on needing a bigger blower. Found these two making my goal #'s with the 3.4L on stock motor @ around 20#. So is there no way to spin the 2.9L to 750+? After watching JD's video it made me believe the 3.4L was to big for non built motors and @ 750+ I wouldn't be spinning the blower hard enough to keep the torque #'s up. Good news it that the cost to move up to the 3.4 is way cheaper than a cam install.

Have you talked to your tuner yet? I would start there or call VMP direct so you have a full mod plan and don't end up wasting money. I personally use Power By The Hour but they are in FL. Great shop. Nice, planned build for your goals working with the tuner will save a lot of headaches and usually money.

Agreed, not happening on straight 93 octane, without going to a 3l+ blower. OP indicted they were going the spray meth. You can spin the 2.9 whipple to 23psi+, so with right fuel 800 is very doable.

Probably wise to get a billet crank gear and billet oil pump gears with those numbers.
