112 Detailed 2020 Predator Shelby GT500 Mustang Pics from NAIAS 2019

Obviously, the biggest story to come out of the 2019 NAIAS for the Ford Performance community was the long overdue introduction of the 2020 Shelby GT500 Mustang. In our earlier Intro Thread we let you in on some of the behind-the-scenes info that we had gathered over the past several months. So if you want some performance and power figures that Ford has yet to release, CLICK HERE.


Now that we are all caught up there, let's get to the topic at hand. After the crowds cleared out from the GT500 display we had time to give everything a closer look. We focused in on the details in this inspection. You'll notice a lot of casting and part numbers, along with a few undercarriage shots. But first, I'd like to start out with a little video we collaborated with the fine folks at Lethal Performance to produce:



Now for the pics. There's some info to be gleaned here, but I'm going to leave most of it up to you guys and our resident Predator sleuth @Tob. If you have any specific questions about the stuff in the pics please ask. I'll do my best to answer them. Here we go:

That rotary dial shifter triggers me. It's not even the missing manual trans, it's the fact that it has the same gear select as a fusion or explorer now.

I can't wait to check one of these out in person and see how bad the panel gaps are.

look at it this way, its the style knob as the ford GT. thats super car tech, trickled down to us poor folks.
 
So I found some photos of GT350 exhaust manifolds that matched the perspective of some of the GT500 manifold photos SID took. Safe to say it looks like Watson is supplying the same manifolds? I see little if any difference...

Wonder what the ground clearance is? Looks like 5.5 maybe 6 inches. Foot box looks bare with just 2 pedals. Does the parking brake, pull on a brake cable or lock the trans in 2 gears where it cannot roll. So much for milking the parking brake handle for a controlled stop. I like the carbon fiber wheels, but not all over the interior. Not a deal breaker though. Throttle body looks like it might be a hp killer. Glad to see the exhaust headers instead of cast iron manifolds. Less weight, but they look restrictive for 700+ hp.

It has secondary calipers for the parking brake.

Ford seems to be pretty tight lipped about their performance cars stats until they are released now days.
 
Interesting to see that it's port fuel injection only. I would have thought dual injection would be beneficial on a boosted engine like this. Unless I totally skipped over it previously, I actually don't recall Ford addressing the fuel injection system at all in their press briefings?

I'm still looking for this to come in alot closer to 800 than 700 hp. Just basing that off adding 12.5 psi to a Gen3 5.0L, assuming the 5.2L will maintain the same vol efficiency, subtracting for supercharger drive loss, and taking into account the OEM pcm tune.

It has a little to do with the amount of time this car has been in development. The hard points were set before the DI system for Coyote was fully developed.
 
They are going to need to add some security to the wing. With a simple allen-head bolt and nut those will be getting stolen left and right.
