How much time will I gain in 1/8?

Cobra was making 660’s but just had it tuned for 4# lower/ 2.75 upper on a 2.3 Whipple. Now it’s making 744/714 tq. It ran 7-7.1’s last year at 101-102mph with 1.60 60’ on MT 28x10.50 slicks. Getting team z suspension on next month though to help track times though. How much of a gain do you think I will see with extra 80 hp in the 1/8?

I’d say 2 tenth, possibly 3.

On paper, once your suspension is in, your looking at enough changes for 1/2 second if perfectly optimized because you’ll likely get 2/10th just in 60ft and coupled with 80whp, and some weight loss, maybe a full 3ths.

Quarter mile time will drop 3/4+ with all the changes once fully optimized and well sorted.

There is a greater than great chance that you’ll be slower until you sort the car. Every time I’ve added power or changed grip, I have to find the sweet spot for launch, shift points etc. I’ve added 100whp and lost 3 tenths because of where the power was made and how it came on (mid range and blew the tires off, short shift to save the head gasket, etc)

That’s what I was hoping to hear. I’d like to get it dialed in and get down to a 6.5 1/8th. Curious to see how much trap speed I gain this year as well. This drag strip stuff is addictive.

At 720hp I trapped 104-105mph. Are you still on the IRS? I 60’d 1.5’s on a 28/10.5 Hoosier through the IRS.

I’m on a SRA with 3:73’s. Gotta get my suspension in and adjusted properly. Lowering springs and UPR control arms is what I’m dealing with now. I’m leaving a lot on the table I think. I gotta do better than 1.60’s.

7.0-7.1 sounds very slow for 660rwhp. With 452rwhp mine went 7.27 @ 97 with a 1.63 60' at 3700lb race weight on a Hoosier drag radial. I just redynoed at 508/436 and will be looking for a 7.0 out of it. This is on a stock motor/trans/rear-end, full weight 04 Mach 1 auto.

If you can sort it out, the combo has a theoretic 6.25-6.5 in it, but track condition, prep, altitude etc all matter as much as the car’s setup.

I’ve seen cars click off 1.5 60fts up here that hit 1.3’s in Vegas.

Some tracks are more ideal.

How fast is your track for traction, etc? My local track isn’t a gem by any means.

Track prep is decent but it’s about 2000’ above sea level. It’s a very nice concrete 1/8th but prep can spotty. I try to watch who I line up behind on test and tune night.... big trucks with aggressive tires running, normal street cars out tearing it up. Kinda feel like like that messes the prep up a little.

How are you figuring this when you have no idea his weight, gear, tire etc?

It could be a really well setup car, and given the power he stated, the car could go into the 5's.

Weight I’m guessing 3500lbs, tire mt 28x10.50, gear I’m guessing 3.55 or 3.73.

The track is really what is difficult to pinpoint with. Knowing now it’s 2000ft up, the da could be anything from 1700 to 4000. I think the 660 is a real world 600 based on the altitude and assuming a higher than altitude da of 3000. You’ll lose about 3% of power for every 1k ft of altitude.

Assuming 600whp, a 1.5 60ft and decent shifting skills, I can say a 6.25 to 6.5 is doable. If he can cut a 1.4x, it’ll maybe dip into 6.0 Range.

Mph is guess he’ll hit almost 105.

I’ve ran 112 1/8th mile in 800whp at 3400lbs at iirc 5200da. Call it 675-680whp with that da.

Car is stock weight pretty much, 3:73’s, SRA, weld V-series 28x10.15x15’s with front runners. Only weight loss it will see is when I install all the TeamZ suspension ( k, arms, control arms, anti roll bar, coil overs up front, drag springs/ shocks out back).

"stock weight".........but has SRA, slicks and skinnies and a tubular front end with coil overs.

Those mods alone will shave almost 200# off your car.

Which track? If you are in WV, maybe try and get to some of the near sea level tracks in Virginia or Maryland. You could be pretty close to some amazing tracks (Cecil, MIR etc).

I think the sra swap alone is over 200lbs. He’s probably close to 300lbs of weight savings which is fantastic for going fast. Best mod you can do for going faster is increasing the power to weight ratio.

I’m in the southern part of WV. Shelor Motor Mile in Dublin, VA is the closest track to me. About a 1 1/2 hour drive. I would love to go a little south for a good pass. Like Charlotte @ Z-Max or Bristol,TN... 3 hour drive to either one.

I lost 125lbs going from the IRS to SRA. Everything else staying the same.
