Still hoping for two versions.

Would greatly enjoy a base model with less roadcourse weight and all the straightline performance.

That model can brag over the HC Redeye and ZL1 in terms of performance and cost.

And a track version for you fancier, weathier folks :)

Let’s recap.

It’s a healthy assumption we’ll see:

~$65-90k base to options etc.
~700-800hp.
~10’s@130+.
~205mph+.
~great handling balance
~excellent brakes
~active aero and ducting
~DCT transmission
~warranty
~cup holders
~nice amenities and a heated wheel.

You could buy that, or a loaded up M4 or RS5... decisions...

You put a German badge on it and it’d Be $200k.

Let’s say it ends up at $85k, does 204.89mph, and a [email protected] and slalloms at only 71.8mph, and registers only 1.0379G’s and only runs a 1:33.85 at leguna and only runs a 7:22.999 at Nurburgring

Still you are getting more than you paid for so shut the **** up and enjoy it.

Based on historics I'd say they won't have an official number to quote as much as everyone will be asking the same question over and over.

The ICE guys at Ford know very well what the engine can produce when tested under SAE parameters. If the hardware and specifications for the engine are locked in and do not change and final calibrations are complete, they could quote a number +/- a few hp. I suspect however that there are still choices to be made.

Case in point, the 2013 HP & Torque was advertised as 650 horsepower @ 6500 rpm and 600 lb-ft torque @ 4000 rpm in the early brochure, owners manual and in magazine articles. Final specs were 662 horsepower @ 6500 rpm and 631 lb-ft torque @ 4000 rpm.
It ain't over until the fat lady sings. ;)

Very curious to see how close Ford let's this thing get to the GT in outright performance. Extremely limited data points seem to place the GT in the mid 10's @ mid 130's range. Haven't dug up all the road course times.

It's not like they have to worry about cannibalizing sales from one another.

I think there will be, but the track version wont be heavier, I would think it's going to be lighter. maybe by only a smidge while adding more aero. most of the weight loss may be in the wheels and back seats. after the 350 cooler debacle, I'm not sure there will be any cooler deletes from the base to the R version. I'm guessing the track version to be around 50 to 75 lbs less depending on options.
who knows maybe there is 20 lbs more in cooling on the R model 500. bottom line I'm fairly certain it will be less weight

The sum of the “other” new tech this car is going to bring is the true exiting part IMO.

Any gear head can guess with decent accuracy how much power a factory built 2650 TVS’d coyote will make.

I agree here.
Like I’ve said before, we all know the potential of a tuned 5.2/TVS2650 is well over 800rwhp.
By tuned I mean some mild intake and exhaust, boost bump and good octane.
The SAE number will be neutered hard for idiots on pump 91.
I truly hope this is the Mustang I mod least, very close to my ‘04 Cobra with simple bolt ons and enjoy.
I’ll take my comfortable S550 IRS DCT 800rwhp GT500 out for top speed events, fun street runs with kids, dinner with the wife.
When I want to scare myself I’ll take the 1000rwhp stick shift straight axle 2014 out for a run or up to the strip.
No complaints here.

Pretty much same plan here, but I want to put a simple properly well designed single turbo together for it, and have it around 800-1200whp as fuel (e85!) and playfulness desires.

I’d keep the old school manual Parnelli Jones esc full handling suspension, 3300lbs 1200whp 03 cobra for the come to Jesus moments. On that note, I want to get that car under 3000lbs, but I don’t want to gut the thing...

Not everyone has access to 93 octane or E85 and race gas isn't practical for a street driven car with a small tank and low mpg rating.

I went through the SAE database (Click the header to sort by that column) on J1349 HP certifications and couldn't find any results for the GT350 so I'm not certain to which standard Ford tested to. The dealer brochure that lists horsepower and torque figures has a footnote that states "Horsepower and torque ratings achieved with 93 octane fuel."
https://www.ford.com/services/assets/Brochure?make=Ford&model=Mustang&year=2018
With the power the GT500 is expected to produce I'd hope that Ford would want certified SAE results. The GT350 was announced in a similar time frame as the new GT500 and we didn't hear about official power numbers until June.
Mustang GT350 Official Figures: 526 hp, 429 lb-ft – News – Car and Driver

You have to pay for it and it isn't cheap to get the most detailed reports from them on what is available. For example, a portion of the Ford GT's test results...FlexPaper AdaptiveUI JSP Example

Concerning the 93 octane, the 2013-14 GT500 Owners Manual Supplement stated the same thing.

Horsepower on 93 octane fuel 662 horsepower @ 6500 rpm
Torque on 93 octane fuel 631 lb-ft torque @ 4000 rpm

It also talks about the minimum octane requirement.

OCTANE RECOMMENDATIONS

Premium unleaded gasoline with an (R+M)/2 octane rating of 91 or higher is required. SVT recommends using unleaded gasoline with octane rating of 93 or higher for optimal performance of this vehicle.
Recommended fuel is an important part of the proper maintenance and optimal performance of this vehicle. The use of gasoline with an octane rating lower than 91 can lead to severe mechanical damage to your vehicle, may degrade vehicle performance, and may affect your warranty coverage.

This is from the 2013 GT500 Owners Manual Supplement 1st Printing
Horsepower on 93 octane fuel* 650 horsepower @ 6500 rpm
Torque on 93 octane fuel* 600 lb-ft torque @ 4000 rpm
*Pending SAE certification

Sorry that didn’t come out exactly as I wanted. I’m saying they have to neuter the stock tune for people beating the car like idiots while running 91. Tuning to lowest common denominator. Wide bands and knock sensors have helped that dramatically, but octane is always the limiting factor on a blown car.
Still, for those of you with only 91 available I feel for you as there’s 100hp on the table with an aggressive race fuel/E85 tune.
Anyway, like I said before, I could care less the factory number knowing the potential in a high reving 5.2/2650 combo.

I’d take the over on $450k
Would be cool if they let the winner pick a one of one color like the BJ charity auctioned 2014 GT500, the only one in Gotta Have it Green.
