Curious to hear some opinions regarding suspension setup on 2012 gt with vmp gen2r blower and 295/40/18 Nitto 555s. Mostly dragging ass on the street with some strip passes. I’m considering the adjustable bmr UCA with rod end and non adjustable LCAs with rod ends and relo brackets as well. Not worried about NVH. Thoughts on this setup?
Thanks guys!

I am lowered 1.5” and already have a PHB. Considered watts but would like to put that $1k towards a return fuel system. Does the watts link really make that big of a difference? Would be more open to it if I knew it was well worth it.

If you’re only drag racing first mods i would do would be an upper arm, bmr anti roll bar kit the weld on one and a set of viking shocks

I prefer a Watts that doesn't bolt to the center section.

With the Watts the car doesn’t get upset when you hit bumps in the twisties. Absolutely transformed my GT. I did, however, add Koni coilovers at the same time. Even with the horrible factory Pirellis the handling was unreal. I can’t wait until spring when I get to play with the new Michelin MPSS on all 4 corners.

Did you go from the stock panhard bar to the Watts? I am considering a Watts but there are a good number of experienced folks, such as AJ Aquilante of Phoenix Performance who state that an aftermarket PH bar is enough. He has won a great number of races without a Watts.

My car used to jerk sideways going over bumps, especially on on/off ramps. When I installed my Whiteline PH bar, along with my Koni Yellows, Roush springs, and Continental ExtremeContact DW in 285/40-18, this was dramatically reduced. Not sure which of those changes contributed to the improvement but it is making me wonder whether any additional help from the Watts Link is worth the additional expenses. The tracks I run on at NJMP and Pocono are pretty smooth so there are few issues there. Even going over the kerbs doesn't result in any instability.

I am still seriously considering a Cortex Watts Link.

I thought that when static the adj PHB centers the rear...but as the suspension travels up and down the axle will move side to side under the car.

I’m sure the PHB helps over stock, but the Watts keeps the rear centered, which is critical especially if you are running side rear tires on a lowered car.

Edit - yes I went from stock PHB and track pack suspension to the setup in my sig. I bought the whole setup from a buddy who went back to stock to trade the car in. One ride in his car sold me. :)

I realize thats the theory, but I tend to agree with Maximum Motorsports that the side to side movement is miniscule and less then that caused by flex in the tires.

Busting the Myth of the Watts Link

It seems that the biggest benefit to me may be the fact that you can more easily adjust your roll center with a Watts.

Believe what you want. Everyone has an opinion and that’s fine. Some may argue the benefit of a Watts vs an adj PHB is not worth the cost and that’s fine too. I got a screaming deal on my complete suspension package so cost wasn’t a factor. Instructors and racers I have talked to agree that a Watts transforms a SRA Mustang, and having driven my own GT before and after installing the BMR Watts I agree with them.

Out of curiosity what’s the rest of your setup?
BMR lowering springs, adjustable UCA + mount, LCAs + relos, whiteline watts link, whiteline rear sway bar. Still on stock shock/struts but the mods above made a hugeee change. Shock/struts are next on the list.

Appreciate all the info guys! Very helpful. Wound up pulling the trigger on UPR pro series rear suspension package from VMP on their Black Friday sale. Will definitely be looking at picking up a watts link this spring.

I like it, money well spent. Feels much more planted when launching. Picked up a little noise since I went with rod ends for both upper and lower but I don't mind it.
