Looking for some real world experience. I currently have a 19" rim, however it is 9.5" wide. I know a 305 can fit, however I have seen some debate on whether it should be done or not. Im wanting to stick with my current wheels, so im looking for advice on whether it can perform properly at a higher horsepower level.

When all said and done, car will have low 9xxWHP (whipple on e85, 2018 10R80 car). It will see some track time, but for the most part it will just be a weekend street toy.

I would rather run a Nitto NT05R radial. however, the smallest they are made for a 19" inch rim is a 305. Otherwise i would have to go to a 285 MT ET street s/s.

Opinions or thoughts?

305 with what aspect ratio, that makes a big difference, the nitto is a 305/35, min spec is 10" with a measuring rim of 11", on a 9.5" it will not perform to its potential. The MT tire will "fit" better on that rim, spec'd down to a 9.5" rim with a 10" measuring rim, however, downside is it's under 27" tall and will increase your effective gearing.

also with 900+ whp, you need a biggest stickiest tire you can fit, 28" tall and 325+ aspect ratio.

I understand your desire to keep the current rim, however, you're doing yourself a disservice IMO by not getting a wider rim.

Both are 35%

Nitto is a 305/35
MT is a 285/35

I will get a wider wheel this winter. Just looking for a solid/safe tire in the mean time. With doing research it appears the MT may be the better option to get me by.

+1 with stkjock. With the large amount of money you are going to spend upgrading your 2018, the correct size rim and tire is only a very small percentage. Get the wheel and tire needed and don't look back.

JJ - why spend twice, once with a "get me buy tire"

when I got my Shelby it was making 800+ whp I put on a 305/35/18 MT, shorter than stock, and the car would blow the tire off at 80-100 on the 3-4 shift. I went with the 325/40/18 M&H 28" and it made a huge difference - cut my gear some and added a lot of contact patch

I understand what you are saying. Ive been researching a bit on it, last thing dont want to have happen is not be able to put that power somewhat down to the ground. Ive spent some money on suspension set up. might as well keep going. Just need to find out what the right wheel/tire combo is to have it fit in the wheel well.

I also have a 2018, 10R80 that is now in the shop having a Procharger and return fuel system to run E85 installed. I won't be at HP levels you're talking about but it should be a little north of 700. Out back I'm going to run a 17x10.5 mounted with M/T ET Street R tire. I have seen some fast automatic mustangs running this setup.

I will probably go with a similar wheel. How wide of tire do you plan on running?

To bad 15" wheels will not work on the 2018 so we must go with a 17". Plan on using a 305/45/17. This M/T tire is 28.1" in Dia. with a section width of 11.7 and tread width of 10.50"
