I took up riding road bikes the last few years (I've done RAGBRAI a few times) and after pulling my 2yo daughter around on a road bike last summer, I decided to get something more comfortable that I can take out on a trail as well. I couldn't justify dropping $800+ on a bike I won't ride a lot since I have kiddo number 2 due in July, so a friend sent me this on Craigslist and I picked it up two weeks ago for $450.

Specialized S-Works M5 HT and it's very clean for its age (2004?). Weighed it last night on a home scale and it's about 24lbs. Have not really taken it out because the weather has been crap, but hoping to get it out next weekend.

Finally moved on from my old bike (2007 Rush)
This bike is leaps and bounds better than the old bike.
We've got TONS of places to ride around here which makes it easy.

Beautiful! My road bike is a Cannondale R500, so naturally I wanted a Cannondale MTB too. I was looking at a 2005 Cannodale Prophet before I ended up with the Specialized.

This just made me realize how old my moutain bike is and how long it’s been since I rode with any level of competiveness or aggression lol.

Mines a 1996 Specialized Hardrock, a hard tail. I was actually looking at picking up a new bike last year, just to get out, ride and get some exercise. Was toying with the idea of a KHS. Looking for something in the $600 range or below.

Seems like you need to spend $800 to get anything past bottom tier.

I love the old Specialized!

My ride for a long time was a Specialized Camber Pro.

I am currently riding a 2018 Scott Spark 900. Carbon is worth the money!

My wife rides a Specialized Camber Comp when I can get her out on the trails.

They’re good bikes from a geometry standpoint, but the old ones like mine are fairly heavy (chromoly) and they kinda quit making things to work for them. I thought about building it back frame up but it’s cheaper to buy new. Seems 26” wheels are gone now too

Nice! I have neglected my bike for too long. I don't have an high dollar brand name, but bought a diamondback on sale at Dick's 4 years ago. I am far from advanced so I refused to pay the advanced prices.

SantaCruz Superlight (2010'ish) - It was my 'realistic dream bike' at the time, but the low bottom bracket height makes it nearly useless on well worn-in singletrack around here. It just sits nearly-new in the basement.

GT Zaskar 9R Expert (2012) - These were for sale via the interwebs at crazy discounts due to poor sales. GT's previous generation carbon frames had serious durability issues, and they didn't have the public's trust for this next generation yet. For the money it's a seriously superb carbon 29'er.

Im another Santa Cruz fanboy I guess. I've been back riding for about 5 years now. Got tired of having to always repair the sub $600 bikes so I had my local favorite shop build me one on the last 26" wheel 2013 Santa Cruz Hecklers. Had it done to my spec and love it.

I moved to Colorado Springs from Savannah, Ga a couple months ago. I had a Felt 7 sixty I paid $1000 for. After one ride here, I realized I didn't have enough bike. I went out and bought a Scott Spark 945. All of my friends here have Specialized Cambers. I debated between carbon and aluminum and in the end decided to stick with aluminum. I'm pretty rough on most of my toys and didn't know if I slammed carbon on some rocks how it would hold up.

Yep, and it’s every bit as weird as you’d expect. I bought a bunch of parts from a buddy of mine years ago, and the frame was included in that. It hung up in my bike shop (also known as my basement full of bikes and tools) for years until I decided to build it up into a gravel grinder after I sold the Surly ECR. It actually rides really well once you get used to the flex - it takes the vibrations out in the front end. My buddy actually rode singletrack with it. That’s a tall glass of nope for me.
