Hey everybody!
I bought this car from a "friend" a year ago. It was sitting behind an old auto shop for about 2 1/2 years before I bought it. My friend had ramped a highway with it and he busted the tranny case in half, and busted the yolk of the driveshaft. Then he moved away and left the car behind in a gravel alley.
I had a 96 Cobra in high school and stupid me got rid of it because i wanted something different. I moved away for a while and when I would come home and visit I would always drive past the Cobra in that alley. Well finally I moved back and texted him to see if he'd sell it. He said he would but he had to get what he owes on it.. Witch was $4,000...
I said hell with it anyways and bought it for 4K. He threw in a T45 out of a low mileage 97 Cobra, and some other random parts. I brought the car down to my shop and started working on it. There was a tiny fire that happend near the batter when he ramped it. All I needed to replace was the battery cables and of course a new battery. I swapped in the new T45 and I had an other driveshaft already so that was easy. Put new plugs, fresh oil change, new trans fluid, new coolant, thermostat, and finished the EGR delete. I started it up and it ran great until I heard this terrible knocking! The belt tensioner was jumping around so I figured it was that. Put a new one in and nope. Also the alternator was toast so I replaced that too. Well it still made a knocking so I went on to other thing that could make that noise. Bought a new power steering pump and boom. That was it. Thank God it wasn't a chain. So I went and drove it around and it ran and shifted great. But then all I could smell was burnt rear end....
Took it back the the shop, jacked it up, pulled the cover off and it was bone dry. Great. I should've checked that. Well a new bearing kit, differential kit, and some 3:73s later, ( it has 3.08s in it lol)
Finally I think I got the bugs worked out. So I went to an all Mustang car show in a town that's about an hour way. Well, halfway there that crappy plastic clutch quadrant busted. Awesome! I was able to drive the car home still. When I got about 10 miles from home the fuel pump started to give up. Still got it home. Took it to the shop and just started tearing it down. The paint was terrible. Painting and doing a little body work here and there. I'm really busy in my shop with other projects.
I'll update as I move along with the car. I'll upload some pics soon today, work computer doesn't want to do it.
