Easy kill

Went to a meet up with my buddy and brought my SS sedan. We pull up and there is a Scat Pack Charger, Hellcat Charger, a few 1LE cars, few Mustangs. Dude in the Hellcat as been wanting to run me but doesn’t know what I have because my buddy just tells him I’m just a exhaust car and doesn’t know anything about my car really ;)

So I’m sitting there and Hellcat guy sends his buddy over and says “ nice SS, you want to run the Camaro?” And points to the 1LE I say “ I’m just hanging out not really interested in running anything here really” he goes “oh don’t think I’ll be a good match up?” I say “ well I think the Hellcat might have a chance but that’s about it” they all snicker and are saying “ Is this guy serious? He said the Hellcat might have a chance?”

So Hellcat guy comes over and is a pretty cool dude, says he doesn’t race from a dig because he has no traction (has drag radials on too) I say “ that’s cool man, I’m just here on regular tires so I understand” he says “ they say you think you’ll be a match for me?” I say “ well if you’re stock it should be a pretty good race if you have some mods, who knows” “ he says “ well let’s go find out when we leave” I say “ ok” and go back to the car.

So everyone leaves and the Hellcat follows me out. He pulls up to me and is smiling, I downshift and hit it real quick to make sure I don’t have any problems due to it being in the 40’s, the smile goes away when he lines back up because he thought I was just some bolt on car and a easy kill and now he is yelling to me 3 honks! I give him a thumbs up hold about 50 in 2nd and he does the honk thing and.....

I lost all respect for hellcats. I thought they were faster...

I had 5 cars on him by the time I got 130.

He follows me off the freeway and starts chatting it up, “ what do you have done? You must have 20k into that car!, is it on race gas? E85? How much boost?”

The look of dispair when I told him it’s a stock lsa blower, on 91 and a stick shift was priceless. He couldn’t believe how my car moved vs his intake/tune Hellcat.

Cool guy, but I was expecting more out of the Chargers. Don’t count us little LSA guys out, we can hang still(sometimes)

A tuned Hellcat Charger should be putting down around 690-700 rwhp with a curb weight around 4550 lbs. With drag radials the Charger should be running mid to upper 10 sec 1/4 mile.
Modded SS making 600 rwhp (per your dyno thread) with a curb weight around 4000 lbs. SS manual vs Charger A8.

If you putting 5 car lengths on him, from 50 to 130 mph, it sounds like the Hellcat driver did not know what he was doing.

You’d be surprised how often that is the case, Booky. People think going fast in an auto is just slamming the pedal to the floor. More to it than that. Especially in these torque monsters....

Good kill OP. Come run some of our Hellcats :)

Nice work op.

Just saw a demon in my area, car looks much better in person than in pictures. Some sort of grey but didn’t seem to be the destroyer grey I’ve seen mentioned.

Time to get some 16s for the back.

In all honesty I thought I was going to lose, I know he pulls people in the freeway pretty easy. I mean a intake/ tune Hellcat is what, 700whp? My car runs pretty hard for the power however, kind of like the ZL1 vs Demon vid. I really need to get to the track and see my mph.

500 lbs is a lot of weight but good kill and good story! I would have thought it would be closer.

Its not really hard to **** up an auto but if ur not in the right gear when taking off the other driver can definitely take advantage of that and could easily equate to 2-3 cars lengths. Thats if u can select ur gears. I guess not all can. Don't know if the Hellcat offers a gear selection mode like my 6r80 has.

My brother purchased a Scat Pack Charger around Christmas. It is still bone stock, but impressive nonetheless.

I have seen a few Hellcats around my area. I have yet to see a race go down with one. The ones that I have seen basically put on a smoke show as they leave on a green light.

Sorry, but I don't have the power to play in my lowly GT. If I did have the power, the 245/45/17s on the rear would turn the intersection into a burnout contest.

I am not surprised. I have seen guys who cannot back their car into their spot at a cruise-in. I have read posts where guys drive their hellcats around in eco mode or use the Black key only and have never went WOT because it is "too dangerous".
Look at all the videos of "car guys" losing control as they leave car shows. It is amazing how many people do not possess even basic driving skills.

As the younger generation reaches driving age, this becomes a horrifying realization.

It takes a lot of power to overcome a car that hooks and grabs 2 or 3 lengths due to traction. So to run you down he needed way more power than a stock hellcat could provide.
My question is what would those cars do with 15" wide street tires. Be pretty nasty if they ever got traction.

Great kill! The HCs are fast but not unbeatable.

Hell... last Wednesday night at our local track an HC Charger went 122 mph about 30 minutes after my lowly 10r80 GT went 115 mph.

My 2014 MT82 Coyote trapped 127mph on the same track with a Paxton making about 580whp....

EDIT: went back through my phone and looks like I have video of 2 different HC Chargers both going 122 mph lol.

I think the only people that think the Hellcat is invincible is Hellcat owners. i like the HC Charger, but no way in hell would I keep it stock. Too many, 6-700 hp cars nowadays to just go out and think your gonna beat whatever you run into.

I ran a 650 rwhp SS sedan in my V when I had it and destroyed it and they don't way much more than a V. A stock hellcat wouldn't be much of a match considering they weigh more and stock they put down a few more ponies to the wheel than what you're making. I ended up buying a Hellcat but didn't keep it long enough to mod it, but I will say, it doesn't take much to turn those things into highway killers. If you really did race a tuned/modded hellcat with 600rwhp, then either you're not telling the full story or hellcat driver has a shit tune.
