Hey guys,

I have a 2007 GT500 with around 11K miles with stock tires still on the car since 2007. While the tires have seen rain 4 times and have always been in a garage at night, I know tires shouldn't be run on the street after a certain amount of time for the safety of myself and others, so I am looking to replace them.

I either go back with original equipment - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireS...arRatio=40&rearDiameter=18&rearSortCode=54600

Or

Continental Extreme Contact DW - http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...007&autoModel=Shelby GT500 Coupe&autoModClar=

Just would like to know what is best for dry weather traction for thos who have tried them. I won't be driving my car in the winter (< 40* weather) or rainy conditions.

Thanks!

Michelin and Continental are both coming out with a new summer tire in February and March.

I'm on my 3rd set of DW's. Love them. For the price, nothing is better. They work great in the dry, pretty good in the wet, but sketchy under 30*.

I replaced the stock tires on my 07 with the Contis last summer. They are soooo much better. Dry traction is greatly improved. Doesn't hardly spin in second anymore. Seriously, at first I thought I'd heat soaked the car. Traction on wet roads is excellent too. Steering isn't as sharp and the tires have a slightly mushy feel but I've gotten use to it. The tires are very quiet and soften irregularities in the road. Michelin Pilot Super Sports reportedly have slightly better grip and much quicker turn in but I couldn't find them in the sizes I wanted. I also like the safety of a tire that grips when wet even though I try to stay out of the rain.

I no longer own a GT500 but I added DW's to my GT350. The factory Michelin is a great tire in the dry but no so great in the wet. The DW's aren't as good of a dry, summer tire but are competitive (and quiet). They are a great rain tire.

They have a "square" profile too which is exactly what I was looking for. I'm running a 305/30/19 up front and a 325/30/19 out back.

They have a much thicker tread than the Michelin SS tires and combined with the treadwear rating should wear well. I'm very happy with them for a good all-around tire.

The ExtremeContact DW is a great tire for the price. Probably the best tire for the price. I've had 3 or 4 sets. As someone said, the steering response is pretty bad compared to Michelin and the stock Goodyear. They're a lot quieter than those, though.

The DW is a fantastic street tire. It doesn't inspire confidence on track, though, despite still performing very well in that arena, too. I would still recommend them to anyone.

They do awesome at the dragstrip (for a street tire). I have cut multiple 1.9 60 foots on the DW's. One of these days I'm going to have to get a dedicated wheel/tire set up though...

I have the extreme contacts on my car now and they are a good tire but no comparison to the Michilen super sport in dry traction, handling, and wear. The super sports were on the car when I bought it and had to take them off due to a flat tire blow out. I swapped on the extreme contacts because I got them free as a used set off a S63 AMG (work at dealer and I'm cheap). Noticed the difference immediately. But they both are far better than the Eagle F1's.

I was in the same boat as the OP. My 08 still had the factory Goodyear's at 19K miles when I bought it a little over a month ago. I'm not going to change wheels at the moment so I wanted to go with the same sizes as oem.

Bought a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport AS/3 Very happy with them so far. About 600 miles so far. Much quieter, better traction wet and dry. Great tire.

What about the Extreme Contact Sport compared to the DW? You guys compare the DW to the Michelin, but wonder how the Sport stacks up? I ran across this thread because the R wheel has REEAAALLLY been growing on me. Thinking about getting the 6GR's...but I have one major hang up...

I cannot find a 315/30 in any tire but the Sport Cup 2's. Next bext option is the 325/30. I've seen both Pilot Super Sports and PS 4's with a 325 on the rear and I do not like it at all. Not enough sidewall stretch for my personal preference. But after seeing Tob's tires in a few different posts, I gotta say the Continental is the narrowest fitting 325 I've seen yet. But now they have the Sport and the DW in the 325...any reason to pick one over the other?

I was curious why I don't see some of the '07-'09 crowd go with 285/40R18 tire in all four corners since the OE rim is 18x9 & you could go thru with a normal tire rotation?

Or does the "look" of a 285/40R18 tire up front look out of place?

Maybe 275/40R18 up front while maintaining 285/40R18 in the rear..... just thinking out-loud here.... always thought there is not enough grip in general with a 255/45R18 front tire....

I see plus-sizing the rear to a 295/40R18 tire is almost non-existent.

Except for Nitto NT555 G2 to have matching front & rear tires:

Front 285/40R18
Rear 295/40R18

The extremecontact sport is replacing the DW. I have a set for the Shelby and a set for the ST on order, and once this hateful white crap stops falling from the sky, i will report back with the differences.

Thanks for getting me thinking about this. The fronts on my '07 are factory as well, and although they look pristine, it's time to replace them.

^ Most anything will be an improvement over 12 year old tires (not sure if yours are?). Ask me how I know. Seems like the Conti's are a very good choice plus they now have the sport version as well. I went with the Nitto 555/G2's and are very happy with them. They were featured on an SVTPerformance review and did very well, although the review was for track use. Plus for me they were more cost effective. One of the things most noticeable was the rear end noise was cut back a lot. I was getting an irritating drone (not exhaust related) @ about 2k rpm (2-6 gear). This went away with the Nitto's. Using 295 out back & 255 up front. Real pleasant to drive now.

BTW: I use a CF DS so I'm sure that helps with the drivetrain noise as well.

Good Luck.

I wouldn't mind trying out the ExtremeContact Sport. Unfortunately, Continental announced it after I had already replaced my DWs with Michelin PSS. I've fallen in love with those tires, and will probably replaced those with the PS4S when the time comes.

Here's a Tire Rack comparo of the MPS4S, EC Sport, and Pirelli P Zero 4.
