Boat vs Fun car idea

It's been awhile since I've posted and I'm back and happy in life and job and I have a choice of doing either. Lately I've gotten the itch for a sports car (Cobra, or a boat). I love pounding gears and miss the thrill of the pull of a fast car but lately I've thought about going the boat route as well which could be a new adventure, taking friends out, meeting new people. If I were to go the boat route I have a huge back yard to stock the boat in winter season but would require to open one side of my fence line and add a double swing gate which isn't that bad but whatever, on the other side I could do two jet skis as well but then I think why not get a fun car and garage it and make it a summer bitch. I'm feeling conflicted.

I love boats. They're fun and not much beats a day out on the water. The problem is they tend to be pretty expensive to own, maintain and insure. Here in Colorado where the boating season is four...maybe five months long if you have a good year, that becomes a lot of money for something you don't get to use often.

I'm not sure exactly where you're at, but if you have a boating season that is fairly long, it becomes IMHO a better option. But if you're in an area that sees different seasons, it may be a waste.

The car could be the same thing, but with heaters and such, you can still use them in the winter when it's dry. So my vote would be to go the car route and get a friend that owns a boat.

I'm going to do both. I just bought a new house that comes with a 40' boat slip to which I am going to add a 10K lbs boat lift. If I can just check the weather, walk down to the boat, do my safety inspection and take off, it will be very convenient.

I am looking a bowriders in the 19-23 range just to have something to run around the Chespeake bay, do some exploring and get away from work once in a while Probably a Sea Ray 195 or Glastron 205.

I have a 17 mustang, f150, and bay boat. I also have a highly modded 11 mustang. The 17 mustang and f150 are daily drivers so obviously those get used regularly. The boat gets used every nice weekend and some weekdays after work. The 11 mustang has become a lawn ornament i think lol. Its accumulated a whopping 3k miles in 3 years.

Its really personal preference, but I'd give up both my mustangs to keep my boat. My truck can take me anywhere i need to go on land so why would i choose another vehicle over a boat which can take me places the truck or mustangs can't.

This. Sit down and seriously ask yourself how many days a year you'd really truly use the boat. Seriously calculate ownership, slip, maintenance and insurance expenses. Divide the expenses by days of use, and unless you're on that boat every weekend, I bet you'll find it's cheaper to just rent one when you want to, even though it's heinously expensive.

Been there done that. From one of the fastest, 69 Hondo Flat with tunnel rammed big block, to the slowest 72 Columbia sailboat. Both cost lots of money that could never be gotten back. But if you are in for fun of it and do not care about the outlay boating is a blast,

I have two fun cars and a boat. Boat hands down is much more enjoyable to me and my family than any car could be but it is a very expensive hobby. Everything about boating costs money and I mean everything. I would only recommend a boat when all of your other finances are in order. It is definitely a toy not anywhere near a necessity but nothing beats a day out on the water with family and friends. Nothing.

Find a friend with a boat like you want and get some honest answers from him regarding costs and he time it takes to maintain it. If you're smart buying / modding a car you can get most of your money back when you sell. That will never be the case with a boat.
