What will the 2018 Dodge SRT Demon beat in a drag race? Cars costing 10 times as much, that's what

i think you're right. I remember someone saying they had a hookup on one.
Will he end up paying a near $50K ADM? Surely he wasn't thinking that when he put in his request.

1/2 mile.

Also, doesn't the Cobra Jet run in the 8's?
It's quicker, Nick, but the Cobra Jet isn't street legal. Built and equipped for the track only, as you know. The Demon is a street-friendly track car, legal for street use. Wouldn't it be great it the Cobra Jet WAS street legal like the Demon. Maybe a track-only version and a street/track version. Oh yeah!

I remember reading the Demons are coming with 2 different rim setups. I've only seen the ones at the press release. Have you guys seen the other set, have pictures of those been released yet?

Lol @ that this place now. So many posters are reaching into the ass to find reasons to hate this car.

It's pathetic really

Seriously, making a argument about which car handles better in the rain lol. GTFO with that crap. Not liking a car is perfectly fine. Just don't make an ass hat out of yourself on the reasons why.

I've got a legit argument. Which car will still retain it's front bumper if you traverse anything more than a 1% approach angle?

I'm not sure if the "rain" comments are directed toward me or someone else... But as someone who owns a Hellcat Challenger, Super Track Pack Challenger, a GT500, and a GT350... I street drive all of them all year long, rain or not. Knowing if the car is safe in the rain and of it can put power to the road when wet seems like a pretty damn valid question to ask. Especially when track days and my commute don't get cancelled due to a little of the wet stuff.

Why is it assumed the question about suitability must be that someone is hating on the car?

My complaint was not with the car itself, my comment was directed torwards the comparison.
Great the demon comes with slicks and skinnies stock, how does that effect real world driving?

The demon is fast without the dr's. I'm sure it's a blast to feel that torque on take off. It's awesome that dodge built it. Just don't make it something it's not. It's not a car to compete with the P1's of the world even though it will put up a hell of a fight in the 1320.

9.65 on stock tires or DR and skinnies?

Well are the skinnies stock?

And I want to see the same test in the wet. I'll be impressed if it's out front in the rain.
I'd rather have a HC or ACR.

Also noticed no mph. Maybe it's not that fast....

I'm looking at the demon as a road car since it has a vin.
The last checked road cars drive in the rain.
Cobra jet vs demon since we're only talking non street driving 1320 runs...

You can't be ****ing serious right now. Have you been living under a rock or are you just trolling really hard?

Lot of demon haters around here for sure.

Trolling how?

Yes I questioned the tires, and was correct it was a drag setup.
Yes they did not put mph because it would ruin their conjecture.
Yes I compared it to the last ford drag set up.

What's your point again? Low tens is a fast car on street tires. Faster than 99% of the cars on the road. Got to hand in to dodge for building it!

Maybe you are saying it's better than the P1 and the like?

By some of the logic in here, all rwd cars are garbage because they're not good in the snow.

Take the nannies off and Mustangs suck in the rain, too.

Unreal.

RWD cars do suck in the snow. That's why I've owned AWD and 4WD Jeeps and trucks my whole life.... That doesn't mean the car is worthless. SMDH you're killin' me Smalls.

Always get a kick out of comments when the car of topic isn't a Ford.

I cant wait to see how much money buyers lose due to depreciation on this one. Lol
With how few they are building, I doubt it will depreciate.

I know that's unheard of being a newer Dodge but this is their 350R in terms of demand vs supply.

I dunno about the rain comments, but comparing the Demon to any of the cars here is laughable in any category but 1/4 mile. Nobody is gonna be cross shopping a LAF etc with a demon.

And I'm sorry, but it's not like Dodge has achieved something amazing or done anything truely impressive engineering wise. Yes, it's fast. But is it any faster/better than what the aftermarket already offers?

What exactly is it doing that a aftermarket supercharged Hellcat, ZL1, or GT500 cannot? Isn't it basically a factory version of an aftermarket modded car, except it costs way more?

You can't really make the argument someone couldn't take a coyote, new Camaro, or 392 charger etc and have a faster, still street legal car for far less $$. And if the 1/4 mile is all that matters....

To me this thing is like a Roush/Shelby version of a mustang GT. It's cool, it's fast (in the demons case really fast) but if I was my dollar I'd be hard pressed to spend 100 grand plus on what amounts to a sooped up 35k car you still need to weld a cage in to hit NHRA tracks. No thanks.

Edit: On top of all that, it's 85k plus insane ADMs. Fully out of reach of most people. It's not like this is some bargain of a car with tons of insane cutting edge tech.

The stock tires are DRs.

They achieved the 9.65 with the skinnies, though.

It's a neat vehicle for sure especially at $85k. But I can't help but think of the first idiot driving around with his skinnies on, roll racing on the interstate trying to take a bend at speed with all that weight on those little tires.

You must be new to the world of drag heads. There are guys on this forum (and plenty on Youtube) that drive around on drag setups like it's normal. I'm not saying it makes sense, but there are a lot of crazy people out there that do it. I think it looks ridiculous.

... Kind of what happens when you're in a car not built for drag racing but has low weight(minus the SS, I don't think they're low low weight compared to other super cars but probably weigh less than the Demon(I would think anyways)...

The Veyron weighs 4400 lbs. So the weight is about the same between the Demon and Veyron. Dodge claims to have done weight reduction, but that is from taking out all the seats and trunk lining. In actual road car configuration, it's just as heavy as the Hellcats.

It's impressive that the Demon can outpace hypercars, but the hypercars did it on "regular" street tires.

Cliff notes:

A $5K fox body beater can be made faster than a Demon for way less money.

All factory performance cars are a waste. Just build up some old piece of crap for cheaper.
