Lol I don't think its that bad, but yeah they are faster.

Although back before Coyotes and LS2/3 cars, we had full bolt on 2V's running with mostly stock LS1 cars....

Full bolt on 2Vs running with LS1s? o_O

A good buddy of mine had every bolt on you could do on a 2V GT and with a lid and catback exhaust on my LS1 TA I walked him every single time. With long tubes and a few other mods, it was even worse.

On the Camaro note, I drove a 2016 SS 6M a few months back and it was definitely a lot faster than a previous gen Camaro I'd driven. I could tell it had more power and torque than my stock 5.0 but when I got back in the Mustang afterwards, it didn't feel significantly slower. It did feel a lot more spacious and well lit though. :D The new Camaros are better performers but the visibility with those tiny windows is still pretty bad.

As the owner of a bone stock '17 GT Fastback, I wouldn't go out of my way to pick a race with a new Camaro SS (or a Scat Pack either). I drove both en route to purchasing my 5.0, and they were noticeably quicker. The determining factor for me was the interior of the Camaro and the price of a Scat Pack Challenger/Charger.

Chevy, and of course Dodge, has really stepped up their pony car game as of late. Now the ball is in Ford's court and we get to see what they serve up (which, based on what is known about the '18, not much).

Zhisel, I haven't driven the Challenger but aren't they significantly heavier than the 'Stang and the Camaro? I sat in one at an auto show and I was surprised at how cramped the interior felt for such a massive car. I expected a lot more.

Isn't Ford supposed to be adding some new magnetorheological dampers on the 2018 Mustang? If I understand the recent comparisons, the biggest advantages of the newer Camaro are in the chassis improvements and their magneride suspension. If Ford adds some improvements in the handling department and another 20-30 HP in the GT, and manages to keep the price a few grand cheaper than both Challenger and Camaro, I think that should be sufficient. In addition to the cramped interior, every time I have looked at the new Camaros, the biggest turn off has been knowing you could get a similarly equipped Mustang for 4k or so less.

The new Camaro looks have grown on me but I think the Mustang still has the edge in the looks department.

If you dont plan to mod your car, or lightly mod your car, you'd be a fool to not buy the '16 SS.. preferably with the 1LE package... SICK CAR!

If you have a horsepower addiction like me, and cant leave well enough alone, youd be a fool to not buy a '17 Mustang GT--add blower/turbo of your choice, and go run 9s.

The '15+ coyote is a fuggin brute and will eat 800hp with ease. Aftermarket is MASSIVE and parts are cheap.

The LT1 aftermarket seems to be lagging behind... Cam jobs are BIG jobs now (didnt use to be on prior platforms), and the direct injection seems to be complicating things some.

Scat Pack Mopars are also VERY nice, but for 48-50k, why not buy a Hellcat for 8K more?

My opinion!

The Challenger is indeed heavier, but it's really not an issue from a straight line performance viewpoint. From a dig it's quicker and faster than a 5.0 (and Camaro too), and from a roll it is as well. If I had to rate them from fastest to slowest, I'd say SP Charger/Challenger > Camaro SS > 5.0.

The Charger was tempting at $39K, but I got my S550 for ~$32K, and the performance difference could be made up for much less than $8K.

Im pretty sure the 6g camaro ss is faster than the scat pack in a straight line.

Ss > scat > 5.0

No doubt the SS is the best all around car, period.

I just remember a member here running a 12.2 @ 116 in his 392 if I'm not mistaken. Now I know that may be considered a hero run, most seem to be 12.4-12.7ish @114+. That's a drivers race with the new SS. @ZYBORG

A Scat Pack isn't 50k, the SRT maybe.

Maybe not now, but when I was shopping, the Scat Pack had just come out and not a lot of people even knew about it. $39k base price plus $1000 guzzler tax for the manual or $1000 option for auto. On top of that, not only no incentives offered, but also a $5000 dealer markup because it was a "special" model. With UT's 6.8% tax rate it was pretty close to $50 OTD. I laughed and walked.

I will say that the Scat Pack felt WAYYYY faster than my 5.0 though. I haven't driven a 6th gen Camaro but I did have an encounter with one last week. Got to go from a dig. My launch was spot on but he bogged his a bit. Still pulled slightly ahead of me after the first shift but then he missed 3rd and it was over. He was a younger guy and it still had dealer tags on it so I'm sure he wasn't used to it yet. It's a fair assumption that equally driven, he'd shit on me.

As far as 2V's vs. LS1's, the '96 in my sig ran even with bone stock LS1's and I had most of the bolt-ons along with cams, so...I dunno about a FBO 2V, equally driven, beating an LS1.

The scat is definitely not far behind the ss in the 1/4. But same driver / same conditions, the ss is in fact faster than the scat.

The only area that I would consider them equally good, is in the looks dept.

See, looks and overall interior feel is why the SS was the first car I looked at, and for the last time.

I absolutely fell in love with the Scat Pack, but it just wasn't feasible. :(

You ended up with the s550 5.0 correct?

Although, I prefer the interior of the stang to the ss. I hate the looks of the s550 gt. It takes some work for them to grow on me. Which is not the case with the ss or the scat.

The good thing is that looks are very subjective, but damn does the s550 gt remind me of a beluga. Lol.

I do now have a '17 GT. It wasn't my first choice, I actually looked at quite a few '13-14 GTs, but with the deals to be had on a brand new one, it was an obvious choice to me. But there's a reason I'm having to order a PMAS CAI, Corsa Sport cat-back and PBD tune so early in the running.

I could have taken a bone stock Scat Pack and been happy for a long time, both in the looks and performance department. I just couldn't say the same for a Camaro SS, no matter how well they perform (and they do perform well).

If I had the GT, Id also get an APR front spliter, steeda Q series rear spoiler, better wheels and 350 quadtip set up. That would really help its looks, IMO. The interior is already great. The handling is already great and plenty of potential in the power dept.

not at my post...
I've raced a couple 6th gens so far. From a dig, I have no issue pulling them. They move out pretty well from a roll though. I only put 2-3 cars on the ones I raced from 40-130ish.

I have a ported CJ setup with full exhaust, some weight reduction, and running 91 pump gas. 2 of Camaros have headers, intake and E85. All of use have auto trans.

I think bone stock they make roughly 400-410rwhp. They're much stronger than the 5th gens. Chevy really nailed the stock tune as well, so don't take a stock one lightly.

RE: 6th gen Camaro tune. There isn't much left on the table tune wise from the factory calibration. Guys have messed with the tunes and not picked much if anything over factory.

A guy local to me has a 16 SS M6 with a mishimoto cold air intake, tune, and flowmaster outlaw axlebacks and made like 416rwhp on a Dynojet. He always has issues hooking up but he's on Welds with M&H Racemasters now so I'm going to try to get a few run ins with him this Saturday

He should still get you, both of you being M6 and all, but since you both are M6 it will more come down to the drivers than anything. Good luck either way.

We're talking about autos here, and there's no denying a new auto Camaro SS is quicker and faster than a new ('15-17) auto Mustang GT. :(
