Yeah Sid posted this about a weke ago. Ridley said he already has the sequel for this one written and ready to start filming in 2018. He knows he does not have the luxury of time to ve waiting 5+ years in between films.

I just want to make sure I got it correct. In the timeline of the alien movies this is another prequel taking place after the events of Prometheus?

As far as I understand it, yes. After Prometheus and before Ripley.
