Anybody else raced a Hellcat Charger?

Figured I would ask this question regarding a run I had this past summer in my supra.

My car is on a very simple single turbo setup w/ stock long block and a built auto/3500 stall.
I'm making right around 470whp, and I ran into the hellcat on the highway - assume it was stock or close to it (it was very loud).

We did a 60-125 roll and it was basically dead even - I pulled a bumper soon after the honk and by the end of the pull he had a bumper on me. Each of us had one female passenger. I honestly expected him to pull on me a bit more, especially at that speed.

Anybody else have a run in with one of these??

Not to try and sound like a jerk, but it sounds like he was running the black key which limits power to 500 if I recall correctly.

Still, really impressive though. Nice run!

I am not surprised even if it was not with the black key. I dragged a stock one by a bus or two, they really don't impress me much from a roll anyway. Nice run.

Don't know the difference between the charger and challenger but I ran a challenger in this street car race at the track and it went high 10.80's. Weld wheels, carbon fiber drive shaft, auto. I was impressed

Your supra has 1,000 pound advantage on the big girl so I could easily see a manual cat with the red key only being even with a much lighter auto.

If it was an auto the guy either didn't paddle down enough thinking he had you covered or it was the black key.

All Charger Hellcats are A8's.

Pretty predictable outcome when you consider you are running against a "Stock" car that is 800 lbs heavier than your modified, 600+ rwhp Cobra.

Yes, I knew I would win, but I did not expect by that much. My point was to relate that even with 100whp less than my car it should have been a pretty even race. Especially because the supra is about the same weight as the Cobras.

Yes I raced a Charger in my GT500 from a roll. My car was stock except for drag radials and heavy Shelby Alcoa wheels. We were dead even from start till end. Started around 40-45mph till...well I don't know. I could have done a whole lot better if I would have downshifted to 2nd, but instead I rushed it and wasn't thinking and began in 3rd.
Car was pretty fast for a stock Charger without a doubt. Saw a local one run 11.4's @124-125 entirely stock.

Hmm - lots of good points in here. I personally doubt he was on the black key.

I just couldn't see him hanging that close if he was limited to 500 hp at the motor in a heavy car like that, but who knows. In that scenario, I would have a pretty solid horsepower AND weight advantage. He instigated the race, which I doubt many hellcat drivers would be dying to do against a supra if they weren't on kill mode (total guess here though!)

I doubt most hellcat drivers are ever NOT using the red key. Lol I know I would only use the black key as a spare.

All the ones I've seen have been dogs. Well, I should say can't hook for shit. They certainly sound good though.

Any high horsepower/torque car on street radial tires which are on the narrow side, will look like a dog at the track or street when they cannot hook. Doesn't mean they're slow.

That's why the GT500 needs to become AWD.

Well, it's a shame that's the case. Doesn't make for much fun when I get up next to them on the street.

Or just put 11.5" wheels and drag radials on the back like I have!;)

My 17 year old brother in law has a challenger hellcat a8 believe it or not( rich family). Anyway, we hooked up this summer on our way to a car show. I have an 09 gt500 that had these mods at the time: trinity tvs, 2.4 pulley, 123 jlt, 67mm tb, off-road hpipe, 3:73, iffy tune, and it also has cooling mods. We went from about 60. I pulled about a car and 1/2 thru third then shifting into forth he probably closed the gap to one car. I started walking slowly away from him in 4th but didn't go long cause there was traffic ahead.

Needless to say I was impressed with it. Those autos make up so much of a difference. We went to the track about a month later in about 75 degree weather and muggy air and he ran 11:27 at 126 on street tires. I ran an 11:45 at 127. It had more in my car I just wasn't launching hard enough on my two runs, and I don't think my tune was on too good. His car was hooking pretty good for street tires. Think he went 1:88 in the 60.

Regardless, the day we roll raced another friend was with us in his stock 2013 gtr. We both spanked up on him lol. He has done a lot of mods to his gtr since then and looking for a rematch. I may or may not have did a few new mods to my car since then too lol.
