Hey guys,

I'm looking to see if any of you guys run Viper Security "SmartStart" remote start+security for the cellphone.

I've had the worst time trying to contact viper and I'm on 4 weeks no contact, no phone numbers, best buy is no help. So I figured I'd ask here.

My question, for those who ran the product with the cellphone. Are you able to press a button on the cellphone that allows you to keep the vehicle running while removing the keys so you can run into the store to prevent having to constantly turn the vehicle off

I do not have the phone feature but you can press the star twice on the remote and it will beep to confirm. You can then remove the key from the running vehicle. Same timing rules as remote start apply.

That's my backup plan but I appreciate the confirmation! Thank you

Almost pulled the trigger on one for the truck until I saw it's $100 a year subscription. Went with the 4706, the key fob it's actually more convenient then opening an app imho. I get it if your using it for piece of mind and security, I only wanted to not scrape my windows.

I see what you mean. I didn't know it was that steep tbh.

I too have the Python 4706 and had it installed on my wife's '10 Milan. It's a very solid and reliable remote start with a 2,000ft range that really works. Love the two way notification that tells me it started. My factory remote start on my '12 MKS sucks and if I didn't have it, I'd install the Python 4706.

My main reason for not getting the app version is because where I travel, cell coverage can be spotty. When we are in a store, sometimes we have a bad signal and if I can't start the car, what's the point?

I have the Viper Smart start VSS4x10 installed on my daily driver (2014 Altima) I love the system. I work in downtown Cleveland (obviously gets cold) and have to park acouple blocks away, so i wanted a system i could start the car from far away. I've never had a problem finding a signal for it to start.

I had a couple small issues when it was first installed, but they've updated the app a couple times and its taken care of those issues (mostly related to bluetooth connections after the car starts)

I pay the extra amount and also have the GPS capabilities included. There was a savings to buy 3 yrs at once, so it comes to about $5-7/month. If you dont want that option, you can get it down to around $3/month.

The system itself to have installed was definitely more expensive than a typical remote start, but for my needs it was worth the extra cost.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

I managed a Circuit City Car audio dept. for years and Directed Electronics (Viper, Python, Hornet, etc.) was my go-to brand. Worked 100% of the time and very few hardware failures. Their tech support was always the best too. From a customer standpoint I took care of my customers, so it pains me to hear Best But isn't stepping up to find out answers to your questions. It's not because they cant, it's because they won't.
