So im going to be using the stock 01 ecu and harness. Stock 03/04 maf and injectors. Local tuner is telling me that the 01 ecu is "50% slower" vs the 03/04 ecu which he says could be an issue at higher levels. I've seen many people use the 01 ecu without any problems. Converting to the 03/04 ecu and harness is quite expensive and more work than I care to undertake unless I have to. Am I stuck having to use SCT products? Assuming I keep the 01 ecu I'm looking at $700 to tune the car which just seems a touch on the steep side to me. That's not including the $400 sct device needed either!

That's true in some parts. The 01' ecu's update the temp readings slower and only read one iat. This actually leaves more processing speed to the spark and fuel control. This is why the 01' cobra ecu's are better at high rpm. The 03/04 computers have trouble over 7000 rpm.

I made just under 800 whp at 7600 rpm on the stock 01' computer. Your stock ecu will work fine. Unfortunately sct has the best software for eec-v.

Bottom line, Find a new tuner or tune it yourself. He sounds like a moron.

What he said. That definitely seems high to me on the price. You could could the software and a hand held for that and not have to worry about a tuner ever again.

99-02 ecu has a 24mhz clock where as the 03-04 ecu has a 27mhz clock

I have no idea how that equates to 50% but your guy was misinformed, that's plenty processing juice regardless

I've seen the moates quarter horse.. this seems like another option. I have a wideband already, although it's an older unit. Even if I bought the sct for $400'rhey want another $400 for the stupid software.

quarterhorse is the best option

i was intending on releasing the free custom tuning software for the 99-02 ecus last month but hadnt got around to it, best bet would be to get a remote tune that would definitely expedite the process

Ok. Let's assume I get the quarterhorse... any specific recommendations on a remote tuner who will support this?

not me, SCT is too limited, they dont give you full access to the binary to do custom code and stuff that i do, also SCT is significantly slower and more time consuming than being able to do realtime tuning with the quarterhorse. I never recommend using SCT for any EEC vehicle

I ran into the same problem. The local shop gave me the price to tune my 99 cobra with eaton swap of 800$ with using my sct tuner. Thats a bit high I think where average is around 500$.

Sct xcal 2 tuned 01 Cobra here with an 04 Cobra longblock and a 2.3VMP TVS 702whp 690wtq. 01 computer.

Takes an actual tuner to tune.
