Terminator Steering Rack (How to get it!)

I guess I'm bringing this thread back to life.

So I have been wanting to upgrade my rack to the terminator rack for a while but when I did the research on it, I found I would lose some turning radius which I didn't want. It has gone from wanting to replace the rack to needing to replace the rack as mine has developed a leak.

When I found this thread and called AGR, I found out that the racks they setup don't have the Cobra stops in them, they have the regular stops in them. So you get the Cobra torsion bars and no loss of turning radius which is everything I wanted.

I found the rack for sale at late model restoration for 300 shipped no tax and no core deposit. I'll be getting the rack on Thursday and putting it in over the weekend.

I think for the price, this is hard to beat especially since you don't lose the turning radius.

Ok, so I've got the new rack in. I thought I had major problems because the car was driving awful but I hadn't had it aligned yet. The alignment was so off it was making steering at idle almost as hard as a manual steering rack. Now that I have had it aligned, the thing is driving great. The steering wheel is a little bit tighter than the stock around idle but not by too much. Overall I'm very happy with the rack I got and one really nice part is that there is no core charge so I've got a spare rack sitting around now that I can either throw out or give to a friend for a core in advance if they need it.

What was the part# of the AGR rack you installed? I need a new one and after reading some reviews (older ones though) am not sure which one I should install.

So it's time to change out my rack on my 1997 Cobra. Glad I didn't pull the trigger before finding this tread. I'm love point at either the SPR-ZM from ford dealership or the SPR-VT from AGR performance. Which ones worth the buy? I lose core either way as Im not sending back an identical unit from what I'm told. I would like to know how people feel about upgrade an what I should expect. I'm also looking at installing the MM solid steering rack bushings. Is this a good or bad idea? I know the rubber one should be replaced. I was also looking at a set of Delrin bushings. Softer then solid but harder then rubber or urethane. Any help is appreciated. I'm looking at 500 just for the rack from ford.

What kind of vibration or harshness will I feel from the aluminum steering rack bushings?

The AGR rack has no core charge as stated in my earlier post.

The aluminum bushings are not worth the money and will transmit more vibration. Just get poly bushings and be done with it. They are cheap, last a long time and don't increase NVH a noticeable amount (in my experience).

Thank you. I'm looking at getting the prothane bushing set. What rack did you end up installing again? An how do you like it since its been installed. Any issues? I'm planning on getting mine in about 2 weeks I hope. In not getting the aluminum bushings I've decided to get the MM 4 point k member. I heard that will help out a bit an I found one cheap.

Just ordered the AGR 715573 rack (Cobra R spec). summit has them for 410.00 which appears to be a discounted rate compared to AGR's website. Also ordered MM steering shaft, bump steer kit and solid bushings. This will be going on a 91 notchback.

I just ordered my AGR rack (583) from summit, its going on my 99convertible gt, MM K-member with aluminum bushings (TT4.75 build in progress) Thanks for all the info on this sticky. I didn't know there was a difference on racks for the mustangs. Now I just need a quicker ratio rack for my chris alston front end scca ranger, 4 turns lock to lock without power steering SUCKS!

I'm surprised by the low post count Ash, on M1R you flew up to thousands of posts in a few months.

Anyhow, I would think that the racks are interchangeable and more than likely the same (98 cobra/ gt / Mach rack), but I'm not positive. I'd contact Maximum Motorsports or UPR to see what they say. If the 98 and Mach racks are interchangeable, then it should fit.
