Amsoil and Rp filters are terrible.

Proof?

Nano/micro glass synthetic filter media has the ability to filter at a finer/smaller micron than cellulose base filters, yet not create additional pressure resistance.

Nano/micro technology was developed by Donaldson for the US Military. There were major filtration issues with the M1 Abrams tank in the middle east years ago. The US government contracted Donaldson to make air filters that could feed the high HP engines, filter fine micron dust to protect the engine (better than current filters), be serviceable in the field, and use NO oil.

Nano/micro glass was adopted.

The first manufacturer to make a filter with a thread end bypass and a wire-backed micro-glass media will get my business.

I know Champion Labs can do it, as I believe they made both the Ford Racing 820S and the Amsoil EaO. Ford Racing has the thread end bypass and Amsoil has the wire-backed micro-glass media. Now they just need to put them together.

I'm really surprised the EaO11 didn't get the Ford Racing base plate and bypass valve. Pretty crazy, IMO. I'm also surprised Ford Racing doesn't upgrade to the micro-glass media.

Why a thread end by-pass? What's the advantage of having it or the disadvantage of not having it?

Wire backed micro-glass media is easy, both Amsoil and Royal Purple already have that.

The oil flow path when the filter is in bypass. With the dome end bypass unfiltered oil flows across the dirty side of the filter elements, with thread end bypass oil flows over the clean side of the filter element.

If you notice the Motorcraft and Ford Racing filters 820 filters both use thread end bypass valve locations, all of the aftermarket 820-cross reference filters I've ever seen use dome end. Amsoil and RP included.

I agree with Ben, a thread end bypass would be ideal. This is one feature I wish the Amsoil EaO and RP filters would adopt.

On a positive note, this isn't really an issue with new engines that are well maintained. Sludge monsters, now that's another story.

The actual part is FL-820S. We shorthand call it the "820"

Royal Purple 20-820 is a superior media version of the FL-820S

The can and base-plate are more robust too, but I've never seen either of those be an issue. Fram cans are slightly thicker than aluminum foil and they seem to get by for the most part.

Amsoil and Rp filters are terrible. Motorcraft, Standard Wix or Wix Racing. The standard filters offer better filtration with lower flow, the race versions of both brands offer higher flow with lower filtration. Depends on the engine needs. Amsoil oil is great, but I wouldn't trust the filters on my Briggs and Stratton. For a street car you can't beat a Motorcraft FL-820S and 5/20 or 5/30 Amsoil.

The Ford Racing Filter has better filtration and higher flow rate than the standard filters by leaps and bounds. There's a PDF floating around the Internet with the data. It's a solid filter with something close to 15+ microns in better filtration over the standard motorcraft filter.

You're referring to this?

What about the K&N HP2011..? Been using that on my car and it's been fine. No more ticks when I started using this K&N filter. Call me crazy, but I had ticking with a ford dealer oil change and Ticking after switching to amsoil and their filter. Past two oil changes on amsoil and K&N have resulted in zero ticks. I'm talking about try BBQ lighter tick people getting after doing an oil change.

Either way, the K&N filters seem pretty good.

It's a good filter, pretty much the same as a Mobil 1. Both are made by Champ Labs.

Is the Royal Purple 30-8a good for use with a high volume oil pump. I ask as the 30-8 is a cross reference for a fl-1a but I couldn't find a cross reference for a fl-1hp

Yes. The synthetic media in the RP and Amsoil filters (among others) is an excellent choice for Hi-Po applications.
