Just finished some mods to my car, added a 4C and Aluminum DS. Car has a 373 gear and VMP tune. I've been running a 275 50 15 which is short 26.1" to get some wheel speed prior to converter. Went 12.05 @ 115.37 with that set up. Went out with new mods listed above and ran a 11.71 with a 1.65 60' at 115.87. After reading some threads here on the ultimate gear ratio I decided to go back to a 275 60 15 to lower my ratio a bit. Should be around 3.55 with taller tire.

Summit is on BO for 275 60 15s till late June! Was thinking of going to the 295 55 15 which is only .02 shorter and 1" wider. Any feed back on those who use this tire? I've got 15x10 rims with 7" BS. Should fit? Is it more tire than you need to carry? They are 2# heavier in each tire.

look elsewhere besides summit? someone has to have those in stock. i personally am going from a 295/55 to a 275/60 due to weight and rotating mass. shouldnt have any problem hooking on a 275 either. but they will fit. hell 325/50 fit. you already have the 15x10 for the 275/50? just making sure u got swaybar relocation brackets

Like mentioned, elsewhere claims to have the 275/60/15 in stock (Jegs, AM, LMR, ... Ebay probably).

Have you seen a 275 on a 10" rim? I'd think that looks goofy and stretched, it is more appropriate for an 8" rim. I have 295/45 on a 17x9.5" and it is almost too narrow for my taste.

15x10 with 7"BS is a 38mm offset. That is going to be pretty aggressive (more aggressive than any of the popular wheels like RTR and SVE), is that why you are looking at the 275?

In case your looking at the Radial Pro, I can tell you that they seem to run more wide than a normal 275/60 would. I read reviews and the fast guys are running a 10" rim, so that is what I bought. It is a great fit and "O.E." in appearance. The sidewall is vertical and the tire is not stretched.

why did you want to numerically lower the gear ratio? with the automatic transmission you should be able to hook on just about anything with a good compound, even an 18" DR or a a 275/60/15 radial pro. That radial pro wont hook as good as a real bias ply slick would though.

Suck in the manual world myself and i am going with a 3.15 gear and short 26" Hoosier 275/50/15 drag radials. i know, DR's are not meant for a stick shift but at this point its all i can afford - front runners are another big expense in a long list of $$ spent on my car and you gotta draw the line! PS> the hoosier DR's in 275/50/15 are only 9.5" wide at the tread vs. 10.5" wide for the Mickey Thompson Drag Radials.. but the Hoosiers only weight 22lbs vs. the 31lb MT's.. good luck!

With a stock converter these cars won't turn a tire on launch, I used the shorter tire to try and pick up wheel speed for a better 60. Didn't work so went with the 4C, what a difference!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now I think a taller tire will keep it from shifting at 1000'.

For an auto car, 275 mickey thompson pro radial, hands down. They are awesome and probably do just as good if not better than the old style 295 radial.

I'd put it on a 10" rim, nothing "goofy" or "stretched" about them being on a proper sized rim and getting the best contact patch.

Also curious about this as well. Would removing the dust boot on the shock and installing bump stop relocs/cutting inner wheel well be enough for clearance in the back if one ran a very wide tire?

I would have to guess that the Pro Radial fits differently than my Street Radial IIs. I would not suggest a 275 on a 10" rim in that tire (or at the minimum, I'd want to see one first). On my 9.5" wheel with 295, there is around 3mm of bulge (read. nearly none, at street pressures) and the lip of the rim is going to be in constant danger of everything. I can only imagine what a 275 would fit like, thus why I said "goofy" and "stretched".

Take it for what it is worth, just one person's opinion on one tire / rim fitment.

And Bud, also for what it is worth deferring to your experience, I don't know about your comment that the 275 pro radial on a 10" is a "proper sized rim". Mickey specs that tire for a 7.5"-9.5" wheel. I have heard amazing things about that tire though but given the choice, why not put it on a 9" rim that actually falls into spec?

I was torn between sizes too OP. Ended up with a 275/60-15 Hoosier DR. They look great on 10" wheels IMO and measure right at 27.5" tall.

EDIT: these also have 25psi in them at the moment.

Yep, those look way more at home on your 10" than my 295 look on my 9.5". Those do fit wider though than the equivalent MT and are actually spec for a 8-10" wheel.

I'd like to see a similar view of the MT Radial Pro 275 out of curiosity.

Big thing is that I guess those softer sidewall (more wrinkle wall) tires are going to fit a bit wider (more bulge) than the more street oriented DRs with a stiffer sidewall. Maybe that is all the difference I'm at a loss.

So OP, which MT model were you actually looking at. Maybe that changes the answer.

I am not sure why they show the approved width on the website for the new radial pro as 7.5 - 9", that is more for the older tire. Here is Jason from Mickey Thompson talking about what the tire was designed to be used with: http://www.yellowbullet.com/forum/showpost.php?p=8240350&postcount=5

The new P275/60R15 ET Street Radial Pro (spec 3754X) is designed to work on a 10 - 12 inch rim.

The current P275/60R15 ET Street Radial (spec 3754R) is designed for a 7.5-9.5" rim (10" wide rim for track use only).

The P295/55R15 is only approved for a 8.0-10.5" rim if used on the street. For track use only a 12" rim would be fine.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Jason Moulton
