Yep... I keep wanting to push this car into more of a track car, but I feel bad about doing that to a GT500. Thinking about building a Fox.

I melted a couple pistons on the first engine due to an aggressive tune. The bottom end was replaced with another factory bottom end, and it's been retuned for 110 octane. After having my tuner look at the pump gas tune that was on the car, he said he was surprised it lasted as long as it did. Driveability and power onset with the new tune are night and different, so I don't believe the tune on the car was ever "right."


Ever since the rebuild and retune, it has run flawlessly.

don't feel bad. the price of gt500's are crazy low since the 13's and 14's have the 5.8L. I would keep it and build it.

We'll see what happens. I've had the car for 2 years now and am ready to move on to something else though.

Wouldn't be much different..... You'd still only want the blower turning <10 pounds of boost since it's the more inefficient if the two (three) compressors. Any significant power made is going to come from the turbos. These turbos aren't going to see their efficiency range until they are up above 20 pounds, so the power will really start being made at over 30 pounds of total boost. Obviously that's going to require some decent hardware in the bottom end and probably an o-ring'd block, but it would run good. :rockon:

I wonder, could the intake be changed, and you run JUST the turbo's ? IE take away the compound boost and just run turbo boost ?

Sure can. Hellion makes an intake hat that replaces the blower and keeps he throttle body in the stock location.
