Friggin tire threads!!! Sorry in advance. I picked up a set of 50th anniversary Alcoas from Snorman, who was a total gentleman to deal with and totally went the extra mile for me. I nailed down my tire dilemma by going with the Michelin Pilot Super Sports and Tire Rack got the job done, along with some TPMS from my local Ford dealer. In reading threads here I discovered that the ideal size for a non widened Alcoa is 265/35ZR20 on the front and 285/35ZR20 on the rear.

I figured that I would take it one step further and grab 265/30ZR20 and 285/30ZR20s. Has anyone ran a 30 series tire???? I've been looking at them and the sidewall seems a little low, practically nonexistent, and I'm afraid they won't look right. I would rather not mount them up if someone had already tried these and found it to be undesirable.

I'm lowered on Ford Racing springs and BMR accessories.

Fortunately the tire rack warehouse is 10 minutes from my house if I gotta swap for 35 series.

I would never run a 30 series on this car on the front, only if 335 sect width in the rear ;-)
Sorry man, I think you know the answer, if you can exchange 275/35 and the wide 105y 295/35 gets my vote.

Is the no 30 rule in the front an appearance thing or a handling thing?? I can get my exact same tires in 35s if the 30s are going to look Ike rubber bands around tin cans.

Is there a handling issue with the 30 series???

Appearance and clearance to me. No rubber bands on this car please.
I'm sure it hurts ride quality too.

Another thing to consider is the replacement price and availability of the wheels. With a 30 series tire, there isn't a lot rubber between the wheel and a pothole.

Thanks guys, you are echoing what I've been saying to myself and not listening. I will post up pics of the 30s tomorrow AM and I'm sure it will make your voices even louder.

275 35 20 front. Anything larger then 285 35 20 for the rear will stick out of the wheel wells if you don't widen the rear wheels. There have been some that feel even the 285's are to close to the edge.

I definitely wasn't going wider than 285 in the rear, due to the Alcoa offset. My main debate lies with the profile, 30 vs 35, which are .1 of an inch in difference in width. The main difference is the 30 series are almost an inch smaller in diameter than the 35s.

As far as rear width goes, it depends on tire brand itself i believe. Some have done Nittos in 315 with no problems. Also MPSS in 295.

Good choice going with the 35s.
I personally like the aggressive Alcoa offset, but if your car came with a rear axle not centered (most are off), an adjustable panhard rod is cheap and will fix that.
Good luck.

+1

I would go for the adjustable panhard, center the axle, and run the 35/295 (105Y). Makes a nice look in the rear.

I would not go with a 30 series at all, 35 is the minimum. Also I ran 275/295 Invos respectively when I had alcoas. I would have run 305 555R DR's too and I believe it would have been fine. I am lowered too.
