So I've had the LED fog light bulbs that came out last year that looked great and matched the HIDs better but lit up next to nothing. Then I switched to the much improved 30w bulbs that Bob's and Van has.

Now I noticed on fleabay, there are 80w versions with Cree diodes. I'm no electronics guru at all but it's my perception that Cree is better quality. Although ebay advertising is unreliable, it says they are around 900- lumens. These appear to have Four-5w cree diodes on the front where the magnified lense is. That is twice what the 30w version has. It also says the twelve-5w diodes on the sides are NOT Cree diodes if that matters. These are said to be in the 6000-7000 color range. They also have a 50w version out there.

What do you think? Any concerns? I know LEDs dont create heat but would they at this watage? I know one reason leds are used is bc they draw less power and last longer but would all this be negated to get to 80w?

Although significantly less than other bulb technologies, LEDs DO generate heat. It's usually dissipated by the mount/fixture. Given the brightness of these, I'm not sure that will be the case, so heat MAY be a problem. I believe the "80W" claim is little more than an attempt to quantify light OUTPUT, rather than power INPUT. IIRC, 5202 halogen bulbs consume ~25W while LEDs (even like these) consume only ~8-10W.

The other (probable) issue is that, since the mounts are designed for halogen bulbs, the light from these LED bulbs won't be correctly focused. They may be problematic (i.e., blinding) for oncoming traffic.

Isn't 5000 the correct Color range for a seemless factory match?
Yes. The 6K-7K color temp will be somewhat more blue in appearance than the HID headlights.

Thanks! Great info!

I'm pretty sure the 30w LED foglight bulbs 50% of us have now also have 6-7k color so it shouldn't be much of a change if any. I might try them to see how much better they are than the 30w version and to see if they are blinding to oncoming traffic. Where's my credit card...

Thanks Norton!

Does anyone make 5000K LED Fog Bulbs that match the head-lights? Possible next mod. Thanx..
Yes. I'm running the (5K, 6-LED, 700LM version) predecessor to these (5K, 10-LED, 850LM) bulbs. As I understand it, the new version provides the same plug and play installation, very close approximation of HID color, and better light output than the stock halogens.

Yep, I'm running the 10 LED ones and they are plug and play and have been very happy with the match.

The 6-LED 700LM bulbs I have were replaced by the 10-LED 850LM version. The links I had for my "old" version no longer function, so I don't think they're available any longer.

I currently have the (30w) 10 LED bulbs. They are about equal to the output of the stock fog lights only whiter. They are close to the headlight color but a tad bit bluer... not blue, just more blue in the light. The improved light output also has to do with the projector lense on the end too.

The new 80w version I mentioned in my OP nearly doubles the LEDs for the same price. we'll see...

The 30W bulbs from Bob are more than enough. I have them installed in my car. Anymore and you'll just be attracting unwanted police attention at night for blinding oncoming traffic.

Here we go, lol, the HID in halogen housing argument flashbacks...

The 30w version are barely brighter than stock if at all. I have them too. If they are more than enough for you then great. The 30w version simply has better color and improved upon the horrible first generation LED fog light bulbs. If your foglights are aimed properly, increased output should not blind anyone as the foglight should be aimed low with a flat beam pattern. To say they would is an unsubstantiated opinion at best. One could say the same for the 30w bulbs when you bought those and had not tested them. The placement of the side mounted LEDs is spot on with the "hotspot" of the stock bulb AND the same as your 30w bulb so the focusing should be similar (unlike HIDs where the bulbs are a different length). And there isn't one person that doesn't seek better lighting... Silverstar, LEDs, etc, etc... many many people step up the power of lights and don't blind anyone. ;-)

Someone once said the 662hp was more than enough... we know how that ends! lol

It's not just the light pattern but the intensity of the light itself. Hey do what you want just saying you might draw some extra attention of the wrong kind.

Awesome!!!

I will add, my info on color temperature and the lumens for the 80w version was from ebay so we know how innaccurate that can be. I never got around to ordering them (I gave all my money to Lethal, lol) so we'll see how well they work out for Steve! Although I'm not sure he can compete with the $40 shipped price...??? :poke:

Good to hear, I have your 30Ws ready to install, I'll wait to see your testing on the 80W to see if they are better. I just want a nice white to match the headlights, no ricer blue!
