Now that my Shelby use has pretty much diminished to nothing, given the cooler temps and the road application of liquid calcium chloride, my attention has shifted to getting my widened SVPP rims squared away. I need to space out my wheels about 10-12mm and need some advise/direction from the resources here. I've been searching and found several possibilities that range from $25.00 to $200.00 and still unclear whether I gotta get longer studs from Steeda. I would rather use a quality product so I can avoid any high speed instability and utilize the sponsors here.

are you having a rubbing issue? I would think a small spacer say 1/4 or 1/2 inch will cover that for you. You could also try strange engineering for the longer studs with those open lug nuts. Ask TOB what he has on his car.

Yea, it's actually the rim doin a little bit of rubbing and the bump stop brackets are removed as well.

I need a set that measure 10mm-12mm. There's so many out there that vary drastically in price.

I am pretty sure that I won't need longer studs using spacers of this thickness. I do know from my research that Steeda makes a set of studs that are 1/2 size longer so I can retain my stock lugs.

I think you will need longer studs for spacers of that size. I've been told that anything over 1/4" and you should use longer studs. I bought hub centric spacers from Precision European Motorwerks and am happy with them. Nice tight fit on hub and lots of size options. They sell on Ebay and Amazon.

I have used hub centric mustang spacers from maximum motorsports and Baer brakes.
I would think Steeda would have them and I would recommend the studs if you do any hard driving with spacers.

Thanks guys, that seals it. Going with hub centric style. Good thing I didn't cheap out and do the others.

The more I think about it the more it make sense to do the studs. It's an extra bit of insurance for not a whole lot of work.

I had my PP wheels widened to 11". I used a 3/8" spacer and I 100% needed longer wheel studs; the stock ones leave no room for spacers. I used ARP wheel studs from Lethal, also sold at americanmuscle- both give nice forum discounts. The ARP ones are a full 1" longer than the stock ones so you have plenty of length to work with. I had mine cut down slightly so I knew that the stock lugs would fit with a 3/8" spacer, but I can go bigger if needed. I still have my bump stops un-modded and have had no issues.

I did the stud change in my garage on jack stands, was fairly easy.

Cool, thanks. I want to run 20" OEM wheels all around (widened in rear to 11 or 11.5") so I will run spacers and studs front/rear. I like the idea of the Steeda studs to allow the factory lugs. How wide did you go out back?

I just measured mine and they are 12" overall width and 11.5" bead to bead. I'm not sure what the standard of measure is. At this width, as stated above, my bump stop brackets are gone and the inside of the wheel will rub slightly on the glue that protrudes slightly from the body seam. I'm going to grab the 3/8" spacer and give it a shot.

I bought these rims used so I dot have first hand knowledge of the modification. I do know that I am the third party owner as they started on BirdDocs car.

Good info, thanks. I read your initial build which kinda served as the inspiration. I mentioned Steeda above as on another forum it was mentioned that they have ARP studs in half sized that they had custom made. This would allow the use of the stock studs without cutting them. Which really isn't snug deal with a city off wheel and some patience.

I am thinking of getting 1/4" spacers also. Should have enough factory stud to be safe right?

Planeswalker indicated above that the stock lugs leave no room for expansion. This is a chance I wouldn't want to take purely due to the axle twisting (literally) torque in these cars.

If its 12" overall, that usually is considered a 11" wheel.
I'm sure if you PM Birdoc he will remember.
Please let us know how things turn out, you'll be ahead of me in the process, I haven't researched spacers or the studs for the GT500 yet, just very well versed in the earlier cars.
Good luck.

Planeswalker, have you thrown up pictures of your car with these wheels anywhere here?

Did you space out the fronts too?

Thanks

Just saw this thread. LOL!

So after all the wheel well mods were made (Bumpstop bracket removal/some trimming of the felt liner, removing some body caulk, ect) I had those wheels on with 1/8 inch spacers on each side. I did not use aftermarket wheel studs. After about 500 miles and fine tuning the panhard bar to perfectly center the rear end I took off the spacers for a test run and was surprised I had no rubbing so I left them off for about 1000 miles until I sold them to get my TF Super Sports.

Howdy..
Lethal's website leaves a bit to be desired on which wheel studs our cars take...
I'm in need of about 1/2" longer rear wheel studs.... don't want the 1" mentioned above because I don't want to cut them....

Also, how do the rear wheel studs come out? Do I have to remove the rear axles?
Also, is there a special tool needed to remove them?
Thanks

I've been a little distracted by my Alcoas so my spacer project has suffered because of it. I know I need 10mm (ish) and defiantly want hub centric as messing around with sloppy spacers is kinda hacking it up.

If I remember correctly Steeda has a wheel stud that is specially made my ARP that is a 1/2 size smaller than most others out there so you can run the close ended lug nuts with a 10-12mm spacer without a problem.

Now I have complicated things further by wanting to be able to swap back and forth between the Alcoas and widened SVPP wheels AND still wanting a closed ended lug. Having cake and eating it too comes to mind.

As far as the stud removal and replacement goes, I understand you just need a BFH (big friggin hammer) and a couple lug nuts for install. You Tube had a good demo video.
