I just got home from AutoZone looking for this washer. Seems like, here at least, they don't have it and said they can't get it. Does it have to be a brass washer?

Thats stupid. Why list it if you dont carry it.

Really any M20 copper or Brass gasket will work.

Try here if you have them around, they say they got them

Dorman® AutoGrade™ 65277 - Oil Drain Plug Gasket | O'Reilly Auto Parts

Buy Needa Parts Oil Drain Plug Gasket, M20 - Copper 65277 at Advance Auto Parts

Man, I hate living up here in the armpit of the nation. I checked online at advance auto and it says to call the store. I call the store and the guy tells me they don't have any in stock and that he can't get any at this time. We have no O'Reilly here so it looks like I will be ordering one online.

If I get a chance today ill call a couple stores around me and see if they have them. If they do and you can't find any online ill ship them to you.

I hope you get results fron this mod because mine were minimal.

You can always use 2 washers after you tried one.

Also people have used aluminum cause they crush too. ANY 13/16" or M20 drain plug metal type gasket will work.

NAPA and get part #704-1357
Dorman/Oiltite part #65277

Some people say if your clutch is set-up/adjusted properly this mod is useless.

Well tell that to the GM owners that have a full hydrolic system in their cars. We all know hydrolic is self adjusting. I had a C5 so I can verify this.

Also this mod wont help every car due to what shifter is used and how wore your car is.

I am buying a brand new Rockland Standard Gear built t56 and will be putting it in my Cobra in about 3-4 weeks. Wondering if I should do this before I put the tranny in...

Thanks TRQJUNKIE, I really appreciate that. However, last night I found them on Summit.com and ordered two. I went to the tiny parts place down the street today and although he didn't have any in brass, he found a M20 nylon washer also for a drain plug. It is 3/32" but if we are looking for ~1/16" it is only 1/32 thicker and will flatten anyway when tightened. Either way I should be good. Thanks again.

Thought I'd give this a try...

Little background info. I have always thought myself to be an above average "shifter/driver mod". Buy, for the life of me. I have NEVER been able to shift my cobra well.

It always felt like the shifter would hit a "wall" or some sort of a hesitation between gears. The shifter would go about 25% in gear and then would hang up for .5 of a second, then go in. It would never be a smooth, 1 fluid motion. Didn't really matter if it was a 6200rpm shift or a 2-3 shift at 25mph in the neighborhod

So I went on a mission to fix it. Some direct and others not as direct. (might not be in the right order)

1. Installed fiore firewall adjuster and steeda quadrant
2. Installed MGW handle
3. Switched to RP tranny fluid
4. Went to a McLeod RSX
5. MGW Shifter

Not every move was directly done to "fix" the shifter. But compared from day 1 to the MGW shifter I never really felt a huge difference.

**************************************

Then spend $0.80 at my local Honda dealership on 2 washers and BAM!!!

The car shifts the best it EVER has. Ever

I was able to bang gears like my good old self. Really has put a lot of confidence back in my shifting. So far, on a 25 mile cruise. Had zero issues. Shifter honestly didnt feel any "slop"

I'm convinced there were some manufacturing tolerance liberties taken with the T-56s.

I have the stock shifter now topped with an MGW blue handle and finally enjoy driving it like I thought I should be able to, though I would like to try the MGW shifter and orange handle just to compare. Before the anti-venom mod mine was so difficult to shift into reverse I thought something might break trying to push it into gear. That's been ~75% rectified now, and of course all other gears are like butter now. I put Pennzoil Syncromesh in her about 2k miles ago, and that also helped, but just a bit, and nowhere near as much as the anti-venom mod did.

I couldn't find the damn washers anywhere. So I stopped at cal ranch and picked up some M20 compressed fiber oil drain plug sealers. They are pretty thick. I'll run one and custom drill out a metal washer. That should give me plenty of thickness and not leak.

So, the T-56 in the last 2 Cobra's I've had shifted great. The T-56 in my fox shifted like ass. Very tight, couldn't move the shifter much in neutral. Also I couldn't hit a gear past 5000rpm to save my life. It was like hitting a wall. I did this mod today and HOLY HELL I can hit gears again and it feels identical to the trans in my 03. I'm guessing what ever company makes those special detent bolts must not do much QC for consistency of their pressure.
