So I recently removed my ProCal and added a C&L intake and 91octane performance tune. I really don't feel any more power, if even the same, as just the procal (granted I don't get the ping I got with the procal). Anyone else do this and experience this? Do I just need a more aggressive tune? Maybe a "race" version?

Need some help, because I am seriously considering going back to the way it way...Kinda disappointed.

Who did your tune? Go BBR or AED and you won't be disappointed.

If you don't feel a difference from a procal tune that adds 16 hp and 7lbft of torque then you need to contact your tuner asap. And who was your tune with

No I really don't. I think it is a problem with throttle response. My guess is the Procal is very aggressive with throttle response, giving the impression of lots of low end and instant power. The new tune is much more, gradual. It doesn't give the fun seat of the pants feel. Maybe that why I don't feel like the top end is any stronger... Wondering if just a race tune will fix this.

As far as AED, aren't they $250 just for the tune file?

Stanglife, if I go back to procal, I will be putting on the roush. Glad to hear you are happy. 91 or 93 octane? Octane adjustment on or off?

who was the tuner? i have had a few tunes and they are NOT all created equal! you could try and call your tuner and data log your tune so they could take a peek.

93, octane Adj set to N.

AED may be pricey, but from what I hear it is the only way to go if you are going aftermarket tune!

I keep hearing the AED thing. I am trying to avoid that route, as I do not have another $250 I want to spend on a tune, and I am already invested in the one I have now.

How can it be that much difference? Besides timing and fuel, what else is there really to change to add power? But, then again, I suppose there are a lot more variables with these motors such as throttle response and Ti-VCT.

You'd be surprised of what Shaun is capable of.

I'll stack the Procal against any 91 octane street tune out there. You really want balls-to-the-wall maximum there's plenty of race tunes, 93 octane tunes to choose.

For a 91 octane street tune, I got a decent power bump, way better throttle response, reduced rev-hang and much better mileage on Procal.

ProCal to AED tune...night and day difference.

What Mike said! I just switched to a Steeda CIA and AED tunes. Still doing datalogs and adding a few more things but it was a very noticable increase in power right off the bat. Agreed, night and day difference.

I love the Pro Cal for my street driven Mustang. Like others the only thing I hate about it is the dreaded ping. Probably going to go with AED if I keep the car. exchanged a couple of emails with Shaun and he was very responsive.

So I just went out for a "spirited" drive. Here is what I found.

First, I have to say that I am a pretty conservative driver. I rarely ever get into the higher RPM's, and if I do it's rare. I think that was the problem here. I did some redline pulls in 2nd and 3rd, since 1st was useless. I have to say I never noticed the call pullng so hard in the peak RPMs. It actually was pretty cool.

That being said, I never really go to the peak RPMs. I guess that's where my initial disappointment came from. With the procal, I was so used to low-end grunt that when I switched over, I wasn't used to the throttle response on the new tune being different. But that can easily be changed.

One thing I did notice, is how loud the intake is. Like no joke loud. It's actually almost as loud as my Boss 302 side exhaust, and I don't like that. I don't want it drowning out my side pipes.

This was an informative adventure, but I think I am going to call it. Going to return my car to the way it was, set up as a comfortable DD. Gonna list the intake and tune as a combo. I just can't see the point (for me) of having the race parts on a car which will never see the track.

I appreciate all your guys' help. Sorry to bother.

And you will get walked on. My friends Procal tuned car is 50-100lbs lighter than my aed street tuned car yet I'm .25 faster than him with more mph. There is zero comparison. He drove my car and couldn't believe the difference. Btw I run only 91oct.
