Yeah, those pictures were from messing with that program you gave me. I posted the unedited photos for you to see as well but they aren't that great either. I'm going to go out again this weekend and try again.

you got a pc right?

do you have the software utility disk that came with your camera?

there's a program on there that lets you control your camera and settings with the software.

for HDR you need to take bracket exposures.

so let's say you shoot a picture at

100 ISO
1/250th shutter speed
f/4

you need a picture at

100 ISO
1/250th
f/5.6
(which is considered +1)

and another at

100 ISO
1/250th
f/2.8
(which is consider -1)



+1 means a step up. -1 means a step down.

you need at minimum 3 images of different exposures with a differential of at least 1 f/stop to merge an authentic HDR image.

some of the better one's are done 5 and 10 exposures. but the EOS Utility program will let you set that on the computer and shoot the pics.

then it's just all about manipulating the settings in Photomatix.

another thing, you're trying to do night HDR's, and you may not have enough light. some night HDR's come out, some don't. I have some night shots of Nashville that just never came out. some do, some don't.

but try doing HDR's during the day to start with, and once you get the hang of it, then try night HDR's.

your unedited pics were better than the edited pictures.

at night, you need to be in manual focus mode and use your eyes to get a sharp image.

do you have Adobe Lightroom?

I would recommend it. you can light to your subject without adding it to the background. the car needs to be brightened a bit, but the background looks great in that photo. nice and black and clean. that's what you want.

Haha, yeah I know they are. Like I said I was playing around with that software you gave me. I hadn't uploaded the originals yet. I can get some decent shots without editing but Matt had me interested in trying to make a HDR. Haha, sorry for the confusion. :banana:

I have never used software before to edit my photos since getting my DSLR and if they were they were stupid pictures that weren't actually worth anything.

I do not own any other editing software with the exception of Gimp and Photomatix Pro (now). I looked into picking up some Adobe products since I have used them in the past.

When I get home from work I will upload the others that I feel are worthy and send you the link. I want to get my Flickr account back up and working so that I can post there from now on. But that'll most likely be this weekend.

Hopefully this weekend I'll get some better ones and I'll post them instead of my random creations :bash:

Yeah, I had that typed out but I must have deleted it by accident when messing with the photos. But thank you

I make a lot of minor mistakes by just not looking at what some of the settings are before shooting so I am trying to make a better effort that every time I turn my camera on / before I pull the trigger I look at every setting just to be safe.

Just wanted to show you that I can take decent pictures, haha.
