How much ATF to use when changing?

Hey fellas. I'm getting ready to change my ATF and was curious on how many quarts I would need. I have the larger pan with 2 extra quarts capacity. I think the book says the capacity is 16 quarts. Do I need that much fluid for a change? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

if you don't drain the converter..mine took around 6-7...that's with the 4x4 pan

That brings up the next question. Should I drain the converter?
