Picking up a 2009 GT500 convertible, triple black, 13K miles, stock, as a father/son project. We want to start putting together a list of the most common and popular mods.

Start with the small things that people change to make the car better and maybe work our way up to a 2103 TVS swap.

Maybe lower the car and improve handling?

CAI? Exhaust system?

Should we improve shifter?

Let us know what improvements you made that were well worth it and what changes you made that you wish you hadn't - hoping to learn from experience!

If u plan on racing it u def need the.JHR clutch line mod and a shifter, 1-2 shift on these cars sucks ass, I got 1 descent run out of 3 yesterday first time out with my 12....I won't.go back until those mods are done. The.VMP TVS makes more.power than the Ford version and is about the same price just a fyi.

I have a Black 09 Vert... It depends on your goals: At minimum, I would suggest a Cai, Tuner/Tune, Axleback Exhaust, lower the R. end at least with an Adj. Panhard Bar, and Hood Struts. Lots of good choices available from our fine Vendors like Van at Revan Racing and BJ at VMP Tuning who both support the site. Before you buy it, get the Vin# and any Ford Dealer can run you a Free Oasis report which will give you a full history on the car. See when it was built, Ford made some factory changes in late 08 . Enjoy the New ride

Thanks for the info, I don't plan to race it, just spirited street driving. Which CAI, exhaust, and tune package did you go with? Do you have pics of your mods?

Great suggestions, I am looking to evolve the car into a different animal, what changes did you make to the heat exchanger and what tune did you choose?

Don't plan to race but I do see a lot of folks recommending shifter mods.

Cai, pulley and a tune are a must to start with, I'm using Steeda's cai and pulley with a VMP tune and love it. As far as exhaust I like the KR mufflers or Roush extreme catback, for Heat exchangers the CR dual fan seems to be the preferred.

What changes were made in late 08?

Slide over to Team Shelby.com and they list all of the changes to the clutch and a lighter crank +. While you are there ck. out Mackenzie Mustang for his MMS Axlebacks, they have a real deep muscle car sound.. I have the Ford Racing "KR" Axlebacks, and like them, no drone. H/R R. Springs and an Eibach Adj. Panhard Bar, FRPP Cai/Tune/Tuner so I could keep the warranty intact. If your warranty is up call Van and BJ for good advice and options...

Upper and Lower control arms to fix the wheel hop problem. CAI, pulley and a tune and you'll be shocked in the difference. After that the options are endless depending on what you what to do with the car. There is another post that polls the 10 ten mods people have done on their GT500...it's worth a read. Good luck and congratulations.

pulley/tune... A MUST
Heat Exchanger- Call Van on this!
Springs + LCA/UCA's
3:73's would come before exhaust IMHO
H pipe with KR muffs sound sweet with OEM manifolds

OEM shifter in my 09 was fine. Never had the famous 1-2 shift issue but changed it (Shelby/Scott Drake) for shorter throws.....

Good Luck!

Hood struts are a must to get rid of that prop rod. Redline Tuning just introduced a nice looking bolt-on (no-drill) set.

I agree, this will probably be the 1st thing I change, thanks for the Redline suggestion.
