Hey guys,

I just wanted to let all of you know to be careful not to use my key if you only have one key. I bought my car used so I only received one key when I purchased the car. The key was the admin key. It would allow me access to all the option for the car including the Mykey option. I decided two nights ago while I was out downtown I decided to turn my key on so that I would not be tempted to go over a certain speed. The problem now is my car is now stuck with a 80 mph speed limit and I can't turn the volume up in the car. I just came from the dealership and found out that my admin key is now a mykey/ valet key now, and the only way to remove the mykey locks and speed limiter is to buy another key and have it programmed. So now I have to spend $250 on a new key to get my car back to running like normal. I never read in the manuals or online that if you turn mykey on it will lock any key into just a mykey/ valet key. I just want to put this info out here so my mistake does not have to happen to anyone else. Well thanks for reading guys.

Cliff notes:

If you only have one key, don't set up my key speed limiting setting and volume setting. otherwise, you will need a new key to remove the mykey setting. :cuss:

You don't have to buy a key.....use your other key....the red one...it will allow you to go into the menu and clear the code on the key you have been using...follow the prompts for My Key

I bought used as well... just glad they gave me BOTH keys!!! Perhaps the dealer can get in touch with the previous owner that traded it in for you and get the other key?

Actually, the dealer probably got both keys with only 600 miles on the car its not like the previous owner lost it. I'd bet they knew you would either lose or want an extra key and pay them the $250 to create that key for you right out of the drawer... i'd talk to them see if they can't either work out a deal with you or get a hold of the previous owner, or even get a hold of ford and see if they will help you out with it as you were not warned of this!!!

Oh, and both keys are the admin key... there isn't just one until you program one of them using the "mykey"

I lost one of my keys at the lake right after I bought the car.. just buy a blank key off Ebay, and take it to Ford to have them cut and program it.. I spent $50 on the key (I think) and then $100 at Ford for them to cut and program it.

I actually messaged the rep for ford on AFM, Deysha. I am waiting for a response. I hope they help me out some way. Otherwise, Ford has just lost a buyer for life, and I am young. I'm in my mid 20s so many years left for many other car purchases. I love my car, but not being able to listen to my music when I'm cruising and not being able to pass anyone on the freeway to either merge onto or exit off the freeway. To say it simply, This has made the best part of my day, driving my car, feel like the worst part of my day. My car feels neuter. Really sucks when 4 cylinder are passing you on the freeway, and there is nothing you can do but watch their taillights :(

I would buy the key online, but I don't want to wait for it to get to me. It probably would not get to me til mid to late next week, and I can't wait that long. I might buy it on Ebay to program a 3rd key since I will soon be traveling back and forth between 2 different cities on a regular basis, and don't want to be stuck without a back up near by just in case. This for the help man. I appreciate it.

if i were you i would make a complaint to the service manager and if that does no good go to the owner/ store manager. when i worked at Ford a few years ago if they sold you a used Ford policy said you had to have 2 if they were programable type. we did several keys a day for the used car department. on a side note i can't believe how much they charge to program a key now. by the book it only paid 1/2 hour to program key or refleash pcm and such.
