Excuse my ignorance but i have a question since im not too familiar with tuning. I have a BA5000 on my 2.9 crusher setup, and ive been told that MAF is kinda overkill. If i get a smaller meter, does that help with the driveability of the car at all or it doesn't really matter?

It's a combination of MAF and pipe size. If you have a BA5000 in a 5" pipe, it's going to support enough airflow to make well into four digit horsepower at the tires.

Once you know the pipe size and what kind of airflow your combo should achieve, it's a lot easier to size the right MAF for the job.

5" intake back on. Stock 05 MAF sensor in and performing EXTREMELY well!

idle AD counts are around 140-150 depending on engine temps. Idle is much more crisp / clean. Load is also much better. Previous MAF load at idle was 40%. I hover around 23-25% load at idle now. LWFM table is also much closer than with previous MAF....another good thing!

STFTs done. Took her for a drive tonight, stabbed it a few times to see where AF @ WOT was at, its damn close. around 11.7 at WOT now. Gotta richen it down to lambda .781 (11.4 ish) and she will be done. It appears i will just have enough headroom , at this boost level, to maintain using this MAF. Up the boost, and i will need to size another MAF accordingly.

What kind of peak A/D counts have you seen so far?

Excellent work Erik. It's been fun doing the additional development on the worksheet with ya on this.

dont have peak AD count yet, i had eyes on the wideband. I will be finishing up WOT tuning sometime this weekend, will report back with AD info when i can log the runs.

and yes, we sure do have a nice tool to use from here on out.....overall, it appears we were off about 3-4% , but for a baseline stab at the transfer function, that is amazingly close!

Oh...and any luck with lowering idle down at all?

still idling at 1000 rpms. i only was able to do STFTs, and will finish WOT before i mess around with getting the idle down to, say 850ish or so.

You'll get it dialed in quick for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get it sub-800 with the data that you are seeing on the low end. May take a forced open loop, but it should sound really cool!

Congrats again. Living vicariously through you up here this weekend. High of 98 tomorrow or I would be out beating on my brick!

11.7/11.4 = 1.026

2.6% off target on the first try with an initial calculation. NICE job dude.

She is DONE Steve. Amazing results, this $26 MAF was the ticket.

Did 2 pulls this am in the "cool" air. MAF xfer function is now dialed in! loaded STFTs done yesterday, and WOT runs complete this am

MAX AD count = 917 at 6800 rpms
AF 11.4-11.5 (lambda .789 in base fuel table)
Added timing to 20*. All pulls done at 16 deg (still a freighttrain lol)

This OEM 05+ MAF has performed excellent. Quite a bit more room to go as well. Excellent resolution.

Videos coming soon!! Going to get a flyby vid, and some in car vids when i get to 04sleepers either tonight or tomorrow morning. Need the cooler air, no way im beating on her in the daytime heat.

Congrats Erik. Very nice job and glad everything worked out so quickly! If you wanna try anything else (curve smoothing, peak clipping for additional resolution, etc) give me a shout. Can't wait to see the vids.

What do you think about this on a 4.0L Whipple with a 3.5" upper? You are seeing in the 80 #/min range at peak with a 3.75" on a 3.3L...correct?

Failed to mention injector DC is at 80% now with a base of 58 psi.

I will talk to you soon about the above mentioned options.

I am running a 4.0" upper only on the 3.3. Scaled by .56 I am seeing 46.2285 #/min @ 912 AD. Unscaled that is ~ 80 #/min. I have about another 25% headroom before i max this MAF. In my tube size (123 mm) the maf is good to 101 #/min as u know already.

i think on the 4.0, with the 3.5, you will run out of sensor........

Edit, this post was full of # typos, corrected now
