Does anyone have any info or reviews on the Ford Racing Oil filter for the our cars. Like what type of media is used ect. And any filter and flow testing?

It's a good filter, but I'd run an Amsoil or Royal Purple instead.

Bingo! Would rather have an Amsoil EaO11 or Royal Purple 20-820. The same filter.

I'm actually testing a 20-820 on my GT500 with Amsoil Dominator RD30 racing oil. Shhhh.....don't tell anyone Sid. ;-)

It took me a minute to see this was here.

I run the FL-1A filter with a remote mount and I have never had or heard of any issue with a Ford Racing Filter before.

There will be no issues using them. The racing version is stronger than the normal version.

However, there are better options.

Nano-fiber (micro glass) media is superior to the synthetic/cellulose base media. Doesn't matter how strong you make it, the Ford Racing filter is still using inferior media.

pdf. #1

pdf. #2

Great info! However, I did a word search for oil in both articles, came up zero. Found the word air 35 times in one, and 10 in the other. These articles are about the use of nanofiber webs in air filtration, not oil.

Fifth paragraph down in the first article, "Polymeric Nanofibers and Nanofiber Webs: A New Class of Nonwovens", states, "As a result, nanofiber webs must be used in a composite structure, with some other nonwoven material as a support. Nanofiber webs are very thin. This is an inherent limitation if the web is meant to hold or absorb significant volumes of solids and/or liquids".

I will find the pdf. that specifically addresses oil filtration.

"wire backed media" in the Amsoil and Royal Purple filters.

The Ford Racing filter uses a filter element similar to Mobil 1, a cellulose blend. One thing I like about the Ford Racing filter though is the threaded end bypass valve, something I haven't seen on any 4.6-cross reference filter besides the Motorcraft FL-820S.

I'm using an EaO11 right now, but am interested in giving the Ford Racing filter a try.

Amsoil and Rp filters are terrible. Motorcraft, Standard Wix or Wix Racing. The standard filters offer better filtration with lower flow, the race versions of both brands offer higher flow with lower filtration. Depends on the engine needs. Amsoil oil is great, but I wouldn't trust the filters on my Briggs and Stratton. For a street car you can't beat a Motorcraft FL-820S and 5/20 or 5/30 Amsoil.

I run a Ford Racing Filter because I want something better then the Motorcraft filter and have no need to buy a high dollar filter. I use Mobil 1 oil because I have a mostly stock engine and don't see the point in buying RP or Amsoil. Although I may have to switch to a Roush Filter because I don't know where to get Ford Racing filters from in MI.

This speaks about liquid absorption, not filtration. For the purpose of flow, air can be considered a liquid (hydrodynamics) and as such anything that speaks about air filtration can be considered to also speak about liquid filtration within a specific context. Obviously a thick liquid like oil would flow significantly more slowly through a given substrate than air, but the concepts apply near equally.

Chris, would you mind telling us why you think Amsoil and Royal Purple filters are terrible?
Also where are you are sourcing your filtration and flow information?
Can you share your actual filtration and flow data with us?

Nano/micro glass synthetic filter media has the ability to filter at a finer/smaller micron than cellulose base filters, yet not create additional pressure resistance.

Nano/micro technology was developed by Donaldson for the US Military. There were major filtration issues with the M1 Abrams tank in the middle east years ago. The US government contracted Donaldson to make air filters that could feed the high HP engines, filter fine micron dust to protect the engine (better than current filters), be serviceable in the field, and use NO oil.

Nano/micro glass was adopted.
