Why are some tail lights gray and some black?

Most likely, some of the ones you have seen are either faded or replacements. There have been a number of replacements over the years. Also, simple fading could be the culprit.

IIRC, the correct color is a charcoal grey. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I bought repro tail light lenses and they are charcoal grey with stripes, but alot of the cobras have true black with stripes. I was wondering which is right or original. I like the black better so the gray being correct makes sense. Thank you for the clarification.

Ya, it's not a jet black, but not a full on gray either. I would say it leans more towards a dark charcoal gray then a black.

Agreed. Haven't specifically looked at my taillights in quite a while. :)

Meh, me either. I just remember when I had a NOS set, I had them next to a black Maglite for reference, and the flashlight was a bit darker. I dunno, I suppose I should go look at my black car..............lol!

I have seen several of the sub 1,000 range cobras that have a snake with the build number on the dash instead of the pony. If it was one I would think owner only but I have seen 6 over the years all in different parts of the country and the emblems were identical. Anyone know anything about this?

Gotcha. How about "factory" seat covers? I also heard they were either dealer provided or done for the first 1,000?
