OK most of you know my setup... I'm looking to man up and get a good intake.

This 01 cobra setup is junk IMO. Its hard to get bigger cold piping to it cause it hits the strut tower. I want a front facing Sullivan but I'd have better luck finding a live dinosaur.

What intakes are good and actually available?

Thanks fellas
Jay

Ugh why not just call Sullivan and buy it new? I did that like 6 months ago. They are very nice and got it out the same day.

Because I've been trying to call them at random times for a month and they won't answer
or return calls!

Trust me I've tried 100 times! Lol

I would blame it more on the turbo kits piping then the intake. These intakes have been used a million times without an issue.

have you seen my thread with all the pics?

ill post a couple for you. my car is almost done but you will get the idea. they work just fine and fit fine. also they are a lot cheaper than the sullivan intake. they also look really good when you powder coat them

The proves my point. I didnt have any issues with my 01 intake and turbo kit.

You can't get ahold of Sullivan because they went out of business lol.. I would do a PSR intake if at all possible. You are going to lose a ton of down low tq and hp with the sullivan.. that's my .02.

There's no point in a 01 cobra intake. What HP and tq are u losing? The motors make none regardless. Turbos shine in the upper RPM range. My car dropped off at like 6000rpms from my Mach 1 intake. I should get another 1500rpms out of the Sullivan.

OP Do yourself a favor and call around to shops that build these cars day in and day out. I am sure they will get you on the right track and give you an idea of how to make a usable power band that will suit your use of the car.

When I was building my car I had a great shop point me in the right direction. If you just read posts online you will just go in circles for months. 9 times out of 10 the post you read are from people that read about other peoples builds online and never tried the diffrent parts themselves. I also found that half the cars were not even finished and some people swear their builds were going to be the best and preach it like there cars were finished. They just change the story a bit...I knew a guy that knew a guy that used a stock 02 GT intake and put down 10000rwhp. Just too much bad info on the net to gamble money on.

its the "under the curve" power that is lost, but this is most important for a street car. in a race car it would not matter as much.

that is what he was referring to i believe.

both intakes are a good choice but depending on your application that should be the main factor in deciding what intake to choose.

good luck OP

Yes but what power under the curve are you losing? We're talking about a tiny motor here. The amount of power lost is insignificant. I would understand on a big block, yea you would notice the loss in power down low.

Guys I know exactly what the 01 cobra setup looks like. I have one.

But you can't say that the little tiny z shaped pipe that goes to the TB looks in place. There's no way in hell that thing flows good!

My whole point is, I'm swapping to a blow thru. I want bigger cold piping and to run a 3" pipe to that TB in that location is near impossible. It hits the strut tower if you go any bigger. The low end loss of power wouldn't even be noticed because of the extra flow that I would get through using bigger/less restricted cold side piping.

Maybe I'm crazy but that little z shaped pipe looks like a cai for a civic. Not a Turbo pipe for a 800hp Cobra.

that little z shapped pipe has made 900-1000 + rwhp on a properly built cobra....

think of the "little" restriction that the compound boost makes. it has that sale z shape pipe, then goes through another elbow from the supercharger, then the little hole in the eaton supercharger.

just saying....

you lose a lot in my opinion because these motors do not make a lot of torque to begin with. that is why guys try and run smaller twin turbos or small a/r housings in order to spool up the turbos faster to get into boost so the car will make torque at a lower rpm.

I would have to agree from a vanity stand point the turbo pipes on most kits look dinky

However they do seem to be able to make allot of power even with the stock intake from a 99 / 01 cobra. I have a forward facing on mine and its awesome but i bet i would pick up a bunch of low end Tq with a stock intake and smaller piping.

The bigger cold side piping takes the turbo longer to fill which slows boost response. So I'm sure thats a big reason most turbo kits use smaller 2 1/2 piping.

well you can make good power with the stock intake, it is proven to be easier to tune and better to have the least amount of bends as possible to prevent turbulence in airflow.

I dont like the "Z" shape but where it really counts is where the MAF is located if you can set it up with say 12" + straight pipe before it some bends after wont really make a difference.

Have someone build you a forward facing top hat for the 01 cobra intake bottom!
There was a guy on here that did just that and it looked really good!

just my .02
