Hey Jared which tob do you recommend?

+1. Any recommendation? I was going to order the Lethal Performance TOB Retainer Sleeve and the LDC Freeplay Spring. Not sure which TOB to get though... I see the centerforce and ford racing TOBs on Lethal's site:

Throwout and Pilot Bearings : Lethal Performance, Performance parts for Ford Mustangs

My research is directing me towards the Ford Racing TOB. FWIW, I've got a Spec Stage 3 clutch and billet steel flywheel approx 2k miles, Steeda quadrant, Firewall adjuster, New Ford Clutch fork, 26 spline upgraded input shaft.

OEM Ford.

If I've done my research correctly, the OEM TOB is inferior to the centerforce and ford racing TOBs. I believe I saw a few folks that have used the OEM TOB as replacements, but they're on their 3rd and 4th. I'd rather go with a more rugged design that will last longer. Any specific reason you recommend OEM?

Thanks.

I assume he meant to get the Ford Racing one that is on Lethals site, NOT the OEM Ford one which costs WAY more.

Just to add some info, my stock sleeve broke at the base, I put it under the microscope at work to check out where it failed.

The material thickness at where it broke was only .185mm!!!

I argued with several people that this wasn't necessary .. Then I decided to go ahead and upgrade anyway.. My sleeve broke pressing it out, but after seeing how thin it is I'm glad I upgraded!!!!!

I tried ordering the LP sleeve but unfortunately they were out of stock. The LP rep recommended the McCleod unit (which costs slightly more than their own unit). Since I didnt want to wait, I went ahead and got the McCleod one.

I hope it's as good!

Same here. The McLeod is an upgrade from the stock one so it should be equal to the LP sleeve. I'm just hoping a new sleeve fixes my tranny/clutch issues.

I got the McLeod retainer sleeve installed few weeks ago, along with FR TOB, FR steel flywheel, and an ACT clutch kit.

I am driving like a grandma as I am strictly adhering to the 500-mile break in. I am happy to report that my pedal shaking and squealing noise issues have been completely fixed. The funny thing was that when I went to the shop to pick up the car, the shop manager already had the broken OEM retainer on the counter. He also mentioned that he always keeps several McLeod retainer sleeves in stock.

I made the mistake of ignoring these mods..first time I did a clutch (spec3+/Alu. Flywheel) my t.o. Bearing blew after 20k mi. taking out the clutch..then had it replaced, 6k mi. later I broke my stock input shaft, so now im upgrading the shaft and replacing the clutch AGAIN!! Do yourself a favor and get the upgrades from the begining..

Fairly new Cobra owner here, My Cobra has a bad squeal when I release the clutch in first gear (sound like wet front brakes when stopping) Iam assuming TOB, Other then that car shifts fine! previous owner claims he recently installed a Fidenza Clutch and aluminum flywheel. I am getting ready to purchase the LP sleeve was wondering what TOB you guys prefer?

If it makes the aweful noise when starting out in 1st its no the TOB, its the clutch. Had this issue on my last Cobra. Sounds kinda like a screeching noise and if you gave it to much slip or to little it would sound like crap.

Usually when a TOB is going out you get noise when the clutch pedal is up or movement itself is hard and not smooth.

Either way, the updated TOB sleeves kick ass.

Bearing wise you want the OEM Ford.

I here you on the TOB, my GT chirped when the clutch pedal was released and just idling. What makes the clutch moan like that? I've never had a clutch make that noise?

Not a clue. Fixed it by doing a new clutch. I wonder if doing a flywheel resurface would do it? There are a few threads on here where people had similar issues. In fact one had a video of the sound.

The fidenza clutch and flywheel barely have 8k?

So from the descriptions of the "whining" and "squealing" sounds everyone here is mentioning coming from their clutch, I think that I've about narrowed down the same noise in my cobra to the TOB and/or sleeve. I just bought mine last week, it's an 03 with 33x miles on it. It's got a good bit of work done to it already, I don't feel like digging out the mod list to name brands of parts, but I know for a fact it's got an aftermarket flywheel, clutch, and TOB in it. My squealing sound only occurs when I'm in first gear, taking off from a stop or very low speed, while letting off the clutch and pushing on the gas. That's the only time. No other gear experiences the noise. There's also no noise at all when the clutch is disengaged. The squeal is accompanied by a "thin metal rattling" sound. Hard to explain, but it just sounds like really thin or small metal rattling around. There are no grinding sounds, though it is a little difficult to shift into first from time to time. Ya'll think it's my TOB and or sleeve?
