Octane rating isn't as high as everyone thinks, but it pretends to be 113 octane or so because of how much is consumed and how cool it burns. . . keeps the cylinder pressures down as well as IAT.

So either way, it works better than 110, regardless of octane rating lol

Research Octane Number | | Motor Octane Number | | R+M/2
ethanol...........118....................96.......................107
regular gas .......92....................82........................87
E85 (summer)...113....................94.......................104
C16.................119.................117........................118
As a drag racer I feel the most important number is the Motor octane number. Research and R+M2 don't mean to much to me.
R+M/2 is the number you see at the pump. to get that number you take, research octane plus motor octane and divided by 2.
So you can see where some say the octane of E85 is 113 and some say 104 and some 94. The R+M/2 of E85 is 104

It really doesn't matter. E85 makes more power than C16 and it is about 1/4 the price!

There is no way I could run as much timing and boost with my 2 valve heads with E85 as I do C16.
I'm not knocking E85 at all, Its just not in the same ballpark as C16 when it comes to race fuel.
I'm thinking of converting my 2012 Mustang to E85, So I'm not a hater.

I would read a bit more. The Evo guys are very out spoken when it comes to gas and lots and lots of posts about E85 making more power over C16 and even Q16. It just resists knock like a mofo.

My car actually wanted 1 more degree of timing from VP109E to pump E85 for max power. 26* is pretty crazy on a boosted app but the car loves it

We run test with it at work all the time, you can take a fuel cell gasket and set it on a screen sitting above E85 with just vapor contact and not soaked in E85 and the gasket will swell almost 1.5 times its original size. Remove it from the screen and it will shrink back to its normal size. It is also amazing how fast it turns to water when it is allow to breath or sits for long periods of time. If your a weekend driver or racer I would probably install a drain. Because I would like to see the octane rating of e85 that has been sitting for a week in a fuel tank

If E85 was that prone to the elements, the Millions of Flex-Fuel cars on he road would have issues and there would be mass chaos. Yet you don't hear a peep.

Just my $.02

Evo guy's aren't pushing a 4400 lb truck with #23 boost and making 700+ HP with 2 valve heads on a 5.4 V8 and running 10.1's in the 1320
Maybe the Evo guy's never needed all the octane the C16 offers in the first place.
But my Lightning does.

I'm using it to push a 4200lb brick with 25psi making 700+ down the track. I'll be switching the Boss over to E85 in a few weeks too.

All these reply's , Yet I make a post asking who is running E85 in their 2011 or 2012 Mustang GT and what is needed to make it work. Because thats the route I plan on going. I didn't get one reply. Where are all the experts on that thread?

It's the same as it is for all cars, just requires extra fuel capacity and a new tune.

The pumps on the new GT are good to over 600 on gasoline so I'm sure you could reach 500 RWHP with E85. The injectors would be dependant on how much power you wanted to make as well.

Believe what you will but it will run just fine and make more power in your L as well. I have seen it too many times.
