Idler Pullies

I have the front of the engine apart installing the UPR 03-04 Cobra Billet 3 Bolt Belt Tensioner Kit while I am installing my Whipple (UPR P/N: 3030-102) (Which is absolutely beautiful BTW) 03-04 Cobra Billet 3 Bolt Belt Tensioner Kit

By my count there are 6 idler pulleys on the front of my 03 Cobra and they are all looking a little worse for the wear especially compared with the UPR pieces I just installed. They have surface rust and whatnot, even though my car has never been driven in the rain or snow. I know even if I clean them up, the rust will just return. I also don't want to pass up the opportunity to dress things up when I already have it apart this far.

A couple snaps:

I see that UPR sells replacement billet pulleys (their P/N: 3030-11) 2005-2010 Ford Mustang Billet 76mm Belt Tensioner Pulley - UPR Products that match the billet pulley that came with the tensioner kit I installed.

Any reason that these wouldn't work or anyone think there is a better option out there either from a price or performance perspective?

Thanks!

Get rid of those stockers asap! There known to come apart and ruin stuff, especially now that you have a whipple. Looking into metco dual bearings, billetflow, or lethals new dual bearing idlers. Make sure you get the 4 piece idler set, so one goes right up next to the blower pulley for more belt wrap and less belt slip.

Def. get rid of the stockers. I just bought the Metco dual bearing ones from a member on here. They are great pieces and look good too.

I picked up the Metco dual bearing 4 pulley kit for the supercharger belt circuit and boy is it beautiful. So much billet! Not only will I get rid of the rusty ugly stock idler pulleys, but with the extra idler and the better belt wrap on the supercharger pulley I'll have better performance than I would have otherwise - and no danger of anything of the idlers shattering.

What damage is done if the idlers explode? Does anyone have a picture they could share of the after effects of a shattered idler pulley?

Because the stock accessory belt circuit (power steering pump, water pump, a/c compressor) idler pulleys would have looked even worse with the supercharger idlers replaced I upgraded them with the single bearing Metco pulleys. After talking with the folks at Lethal, they pointed out that the dual bearing pulleys (since they are made for 8 and 10 rib belts) they would be too thick to clear everything they'd need to.

Since I am running everything in the accessory drive spinning at stock speeds (I don't and won't have anything on that circuit under driven) the Metco pulleys are really overkill - the upgrade is almost totally cosmetic. The single bearing pulleys will be more than fine - they'll function better than stock while looking great too.

I considered going with the Division X idler kit, but since they are relatively new I went with the Metco pieces. I am sure Division X parts are awesome - the pulleys look amazing - the style of the pulley is better looking than the Metco pulleys but I wanted to go with something that has more of an established history. If I did this upgrade in 6 months I probably would have gone with the Division X iron.

Up next is a fuel system upgrade and the Division X components will be among the bits I evaluate.

Ummm.... Aren't there only 3 idler pullies and the rest are the lower, alternator, and tensioner?

There are 3 idler pulleys for the SUPERCHARGER belt and 3 idler pulleys on the ACCESSORY DRIVE belt. :read:

Not sure how they do math in Nevada (You did reelect Harry Reid for God's sake) but where I'm from 3+3=6.

Don't work on your car much huh?

Bro don't even get me started on douchebag Reid. I didn't vote for that asshole. And actually I do all the work on my car. Just never seen pulley kits for accessory drive called idler pulley's so.... Don't need to get all butt hurt. And I'm pretty sure all the "idler" kits on the websites are for the SUPERCHARGER belt and not the ACCESSORY drive, hence the reason the kits come with 3 idlers and 1 auxillery idler for belt wrap on the blower. So actually 3+1=4 and if you add the other 3 that = 7. Good job bro!

Hey man just some tongue in cheek humor - relax!

I guess you can't be a smart a$$ anymore because everyone is so damned touchy. I thought guys could bullshit other guys.

Some other guys on here might get all worked up but life it way too short for me to get worked up about sh1t on a forum. I have gotten worked up but it takes a he11 of a lot more than that.

As for Reid I was in Vegas about 6 months before the election and all that was on the radio was how he was done for, even the cabbies were telling me unsolicited about how they couldn't wait for his ass to be DONE SON and then he got reelected. Amazing - I thought Chicago had the market cornered on stuff like that - BHO must have given ole' Harry the Electioneering the Chicago Way playbook.

My bad bro didn't mean to take it the wrong way. Just used to all the idiots on here that like to act like a bad ass on the internet. My apologies. I'm just as amazed he got re-elected cause everyone I ever came across didn't vote for him, but whatever. I'm not a native anyways, got tired of all the even worse bull shit in Cali, come to find out it wasn't much better here... But you can openly carry a gun on your hip with no problems from the cops so I guess that's a plus

I hear ya man.

My biggest problem with this site are the hard asses that are so quick to point out if a question has been asked or some shit when the question might have been asked 2 years ago and there are totally new products available and the answer might be something totally different, not to mention the fact that the search functionality on the site sucks and a guy may well have searched and come back empty.

These idiots will take 5-10 minutes to link to other threads when just answering the question would take 2. I hate people going out of their way to be d1cks when being helpful would be so much easier. That is why I've been a member for so long but don't have that many posts. It just hasn't been worth putting up with the morons.

Between the guys that "know everything" that haven't ever actually picked up a wrench (what they really know is that Daddy paid for the car and pays to fix it every time they break it) and the hard asses that never get out of their parents basement long enough to brush the Cheetos stains off of their fingers I just have to stay off the site sometimes.

I just love it when these a-holes that live in their parents basements or in a place paid for by their parents break guys balls over not being able to afford an expensive mod - I mean they don't have to wait to buy a Whipple so why does anyone else? Why would you want to pay a mortgage get married or have kids? That gets in the way of spending money on themselves.

Or worse, and I've seen it happen too many times - rubbing it in when a guy has to sell his Cobra because he's hit a rough patch. It's bad enough to lose your baby but to have guys ask stupid questions to rub it in. THAT pisses me off.

Relocation can be a great thing - I just moved from a state with gun laws as crazy as Cali's (I lived in Chicago) and politics almost as librtarded too (I'm not sure any states politics are as libtarded as Cali's but IL is trying as hard as they can) to Texas and I am loving it. I am taking my CHL class this month and I've upgraded and expanded my gun collection since getting down here.

My latest toy is the NSWC Sig P226 - this is the standard issue sidearm for the SEAL teams.

It has a special coating to protect it against corrosion.

^^^^^ Yeah that's for sure a nice piece. I roll around with the Smith & Wesson M&P .45. It definitely turns peoples heads when they see it. especially when they ask me if I'm a cop and I say, No, just like carrying my gun. And people are so stupid out here that they don't know the gun laws and that anyone that can legally own a gun, can carry it on them exposed without a permit, as long as the sidearm is registered. So I for sure have had people try calling the cops on me and I had to educate their dumb asses.

And as for the guys on here and the rules, I think it's funny that they get all pissed when a new thread is started about an old topic, but it's against the rules to revive an old thread... Soooo what happens if you still have a question? I mean really? There's people every day buying up Cobras that are gonna have the same questions, but instead of taking a few seconds answer them, they take even more time to come up with some smart ass remark to try and make themselves feel like the bad asses of SVTP. But I guess certain people only have this website to give meaning to their measly crappy lives. I wonder how many guys on here don't even have a Cobra, or a Mustang, and just come on here to try and act cool?

Finally got the Cobra put back together and fired it up today. After wanting a Whipple basically since I got the car I can report it was absolutely worth the wait.

The car hauls and the Whipple whine is unmistakeable. I'll be posting how to threads for all of the parts I installed as soon as I get the pictures sorted and the threads written up.

I literally just got her running at 9:30 PM Central tonight so there was no time for a trip to the rollers tonight.

The supercharger belt length I needed for my particular pulley combination was not listed anywhere online so I had a heck of a time finding the belts that I thought would be approximately the correct length to try them out. Odd sized 8-rib belts are apparently not something commonly stocked by anyone. After calling 20 places I found what I needed at a little Mom and Pop place called Fox Auto Parts in Georgetown, TX.

I did dyno her pre-Whipple to get baseline numbers, and because the shop is owned by the friends of a good friend, the guys at the dyno shop are going to basically give me half a day to work on the car while strapped on their Mustang Dyno so I can play with different tunes, etc with the Whipple and other upgrades I have now. As soon as I have the numbers I'll share.

Once I have solid numbers with the Whipple on pump gas I am really hoping to get the fuel system upgraded and move on to E85. I am planning on having 2 tunes - the optimized 93 octane tunes and the E85 tune. When I get to that point I'll have those dyno numbers to share.

I am also hoping to take it to the track and get some 1320 times and road course lap times for comparison.

I am looking forward to collecting the numbers and I'll be sure to share as soon as I have em.
